PS2 PS2 SCPH-10000 struggling to power up?

Hello,

Only very recently my PS2 has had a problem where it is having trouble actually powering on, I'll turn the power switch on and the standby light comes on as normal then it will fade off and then back to the red light and then off again and will do this repeatedly until I turn it off completely.

It does this with or without the external HDD connected too.

What could the problem be? I don't think it's the step down converter I am using for it as my other Japanese PS2 and other Japanese consoles work fine with it. I tried swapping the PSU with my other 10000 PS2 and it still has the same problem.

Or has it simply had enough?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Well.. Given it's an OG 10k launch model.. And it's pushing nearly 25 years old now.. I hate to say it.. But it's probably in DIRE need of a new set if capacitors.

My longest serving 30k model also unceremoniously dropped dead on me a few weeks ago to.. But given the age of it.. And the mileage it's clocked up by now.. It's to be expected really..

Hi, yeah it was a fuse in the power supply in the end, I swapped it over with a new one and it's staying on now thankfully
