PS3 Ps3 blu ray drive swap

So I picked up a cheap ps3 in light of the current ps3 events it was cheap because the blu ray drive reads discs but doesn't eject so firmware installs not a problem, I have a spare slim drive that I could swap into it I'm assuming I would have to re-marry the drive into this ps3?

blueray drives aren't interchangable on different ps3 models.i think they even need to be from same model or revision of a model.
 
If its the same BD model, you can try keeping the daughterboard from the old BD and move it to the new one. Then you wont need to remarry.

Of course, if the eject error is caused by the daughterboard, you'll just move the problem over =)
 
You need to tell which PS3 model you have exactly, there are some where you can swap the drive completly without need to remarry (since CECH-25xx)

If thats not the case... then you need to check the part identifyers for the bluray drive components of both, the one with problemns and your replacement, to see if you can swap parts in between them
And remember if your PS3 model is before CECH-25xx then you need to keep the original daughter board inside the bluray because is married with the main motherboard

Also, is important to mention your problem seems related with the mechanical parts (plastic gears, mobile parts, etc...) so you need to take a look inside to see if one of them went out of its position, sometimes this kind of problems are easy to fix
But all that small mobile parts are like a maze... you are going to need to watch some youtube videos to see where should be located
 
can you please tell me which models are compatible with my cech c04?and i could just swap whole drive or?
 
you might want to use what's listed. on the 360, you used to be able to spoof the drive so you could use a different make/model drive than was stock. if you had the wrong drive without spoofing = ban . I'm not sure if sony can see this.
 
i'm not going online with that ps3,so that's not bothering me...bd-400 is listed as a model number,daughterboard is okay,just drive is shot.in my region they are like 10eu at the most,so it seems easiest way is to simply buy one,change it,remarry,flash regular cfw and i'm good to go?

But which part you have damaged ?

If your daughterboard is working and you can find replacement drives for cheap then you can buy one of the same model, open it and replace the daughterboard by yours, and thats all, no need to remarry
 
it's clicking at boot,i think it could eject disc also but it's been so long since i'm on noBD cfw's...it seems easiest for me to simply buy bd-400,connect ribbon and power cable and be done with it.

2 discs shoved inside?
 
when I drank, I had accidentally inserted an sd card into the disc slot of the wii u. I looked all over for it the next day until it dawned on me. I pushed eject on the wii u and the sd card shot out. :-P

Ohh you are on a noBD firmware then i guess is hard to know if there are some parts from the bluray drive working

I was asking because the typical problem is a fryed laser, the PS3 laser lens has several diodes that wears out by the use and eventually burns and stops working, but they does individually
The laser can read CD, DVD, BD and the test needed to do is to insert discs of that types to see if something appears on XMB

Lets say you can play a audio CD... but not a PS3 bluray disc... then it means the laser diode for bluray has been burned... but the drive is working fine

The "click" noises when you insert a disc or when you start the PS3 with a disc inside are caused by the laser lens trying to "focus" on the disc surface by moving up/down
On a burned laser this clicks continues because is not able to focus (the laser is blind) and repeats until there is a point that stops
This means your drive is working, at least partially

Way back when my son had shoved 2 disks in the slot and one was out just far enough to trigger the eject mechanism but both were stuck so I had to pry one out

I did read a guy reporting problems with the mechanical parts, the drive was not able to insert disc
When he opened it he discovered his kids took literally that sentence in arcade cabinets that says "insert coin" XD
It had some coins inside, and some of that small gears and levers out of position, easy repair :)


And another that had two blurays discs together stucked inside, yeah, kids are very imaginative XD
