Hello PSX Place Community,

I am very new to this forum and I hope some of you may have a hint or solution for my problem that is driving me crazy.

So my trustworthy original PS3 Fat CECHC04 60GB (The og PAL model that plays PS1,2,3 games) decided last week that it wont boot anymore and gave me straight up the Red Light of Death.

Before that it worked just fine so I decided to take it apart and clean it and apply new thermal paste (Kryonaut) under the IHS and use a heatgun and clean flux to reball the two main chips. Everything went well and the console went back on showing me a picture but no matter what I do it wont go into the menu and instead hangs with the error message

"cannot start the appropriate system storage was not found"

I went online and I dont seem to find many viable solutions on how to fix this issue for the original fat model that I have, worst yet how comes it worked just fine before the red light of death and afterwards it shows up, I tried putting in different hard drives and even going into the safe mod but even there it just gives me the same error.

does anybody know what could cause this error, I assume maybe I overheated some capacitor or component near the sata port but I am really at a loss here as I cant seem to make it work.

Thanks for the reply, the thing is I thought it might be the HDD but I put it into another PS3 and it said I should reformat it which I cant do since it has all my game data, I then put a fresh 128GB SSD in it and it still gives me "cannot start the appropriate system storage was not found" so I put that in the other working PS3 and it formatted the ssd just fine so my guess is, there must be something wrong with the sata port or any capacitors surrounding the sata port that could have been overheating by my reballing heatgun try. Its just so annoying that it just wont boot no matter what.

I'm guessing you never dumped eid root key for hard drive decryption on pc side? If you had done this the data on the drive would be recoverable

oh nope I never did that, its all a learning process now, its actually a 1TB WD Blue 2.5 that was working so well the last years its just that I would be really sad to loose some progress on there and I was also not aware that you cant just swap PS3 HDDs left and right as it will be encrypted once you format it :( but I just wish I could load up my PS3 again since I had so many awesome PS2 games on there and save states that would be quite a loss since I am very good with restoring old consoles but this is just weird. The videos I could find only only point at the sata port being dusty or hdd moving around but thats impossible since I tried to reseat it so many times!
