PS3 CFW -> OFW -> back to CFW

Hey, before i even begin, i'd like to let everyone know that i'm a noob in this whole jailbreak scene.

With that out of the way:

1) I decided to jailbreak my PS3 about 3 days ago (i had 4.78 OFW that i updated to 4.82).

2) I put the *Flash_482.hex* file on my FAT32 usb drive and connected it to my PS3.

3)I followed all the steps to flash NOR (My ps3 is a fat 80gb model CECHK) The whole thing went smooth and the exploit worked.

4)I then proceeded to update the console to *Ferrox 4.82* and soon after to *Ferrox cobra 755 4.82*. (As mentioned before, everything was working fine)

I soon realized, that the 80gb drive just wasn't big enough to store all of my backups, so i swapped the drive to a bigger one (1TB seagate). When i put the 1TB drive inside the ps3, it asked me to reinstall the firmware and format the drive. This is where i probably made a mistake, because i installed the 4.82 OFW instead of CFW.

*I tried installing CFW as soon as i got to XMB, but it gives me an error at 70% (data corrupted 8002F957).

*I then thought, that maybe i could try doing the exploit again before installing CFW, (But it just always fails to load the flash_482.hex)

*Then i tried putting in the old 80gb HDD back, but alas, when i turn the ps3 with the 80gb CFW HDD on, im always greeted by a black screen and nothing happens.

I'm not exactly sure where to go from here, any help would be awesome.

You're right about how you should have just installed cfw after changing the hdd. When you installed ofw you unpatched the system that's why you're getting an error trying to install cfw now.

How are you loading the hex, from usb or from the hdd?

From a USB stick (Actually, tried 2 different ones, none of them seem to initialize the exploit now)

First time i did it 3 days ago though, the whole process was instant.

Give the hdd method a try it has a better success rate. If that doesn't work try installing ofw from the recovery mode and then try the exploit again.

Just keep us updated and we'll do our best to help you get it working.

Unfortunately, that didn't help. It's really weird how it just doesn't want to initialize the .hex file anymore. It only asks for a page refresh and trying the flash again after each fail.

That's really strange as it shouldn't have any problem finding it using the hdd method.
Let me see if I can get someone that knows all about this to give us some ideas. @bguerville would you be able to give us some tips?

Actually, after a couple of attempts it worked! I'm back on 4.82 ferrox cobra. The HDD method is the way to go. :) Thank you again

Awesome bud glad you got it :)
Stick around we have plenty to more offer. Have fun and hope to see you around the forum.

Hi, I have a similar query, I have a phat 80gb which I installed rebug 4.82 on, then because it's not mine, I had to reinstall ofw 4.82 , now I have it back again I want to reinstall rebug . can I just reinstall the cfw or do I have to run the exploit again. Its just that I read somewhere that the exploit (red the trainer. Com) should only be run once or risk bricking the console, can anyone advise ?
