PS3 PS3 error: 80010017 after CFW—>OFW

I bought a frankie'd PS3 which came with evilnat installed. I wanted the PS3 to be on OFW, so used the recovery menu to install the latest firmware twice. Since doing this (CFW—>OFW), the PS3 gives error 80010017 when reading a physical PS3 disc. PS2 games run fine off of disc.

Things I have tried:
- Testing other PS3 discs
- Swapping to a bluray drive I know works (and swapping the daughterboard).
- Recovery menu rebuild file system and reset
- A different hard drive

I'm pulling my hair out of my already bald head at this one, guys. Please give me some guidance. I searched the internet and this forum.. nobody has given an answer to this question.

It may be a hardware issue if OFW cannot read games from physical disc.

Jailbreak your console again using http://ps3toolset.

If you're on OFW 4.91, install CFW Evilnat 4.91 CEX, enable QA flags, then install CFW Evilnat 4.90 CEX noBD if the issue persists in 4.91 CEX.

Currently there isn't noBD for 4.91.

Going from OFW 4.91 —> CFW Evilnat 4.91 CEX, enabling QA Flags, and remarrying the bluray drive is enough to get the PS3 physical discs to read (in CFW). If I update to OFW 4.91 via recovery menu, then the PS3 physical discs no longer work.

The fix I found - posting for others having this issue in the future.
1) Do the above steps I wrote in this post, stop after getting discs to read in CFW Evilnat 4.91
2) Enable QA flags, enable software update debugging. Downgrade via XMB using Rogero 3.55 '9.99'
3) Upgrade via XMB using OFW 3.55
4) Upgrade via XMB using OFW 4.91

That results in a working bluray drive that reads physical PS3 discs on OFW 4.91. I think updating via the recovery menu somehow re-breaks the bluray drive (just a theory). So far, everything has been smooth sailing.

Hey bro. Stumbled across this as I was having the same errors. I'm with you to the point of downgrading using rogero. Where to I download rogero version that you mention and also the 3.55 ofw? Thanks for this guide BTW so far I'm reading games again in cfw so I'm hoping once it's downgraded and updated it's all sorted.

In case anyone else has this issue, I will post the steps that I had to do in order to get the marriage to stick when flashing back to OFW, as the sequence I had to go through was a little different from @Panda of the Triangle

1) OFW 4.92 —> CFW Evilnat 4.92 CEX, enable QA Flags
2) Dump ERK —> Launch FSM —> Marry new drive —> Change system back to regular mode and test that BD drive plays ps3 games
3) Downgrade to CFW 3.55 using Rogero 9.99 Downgrader
4) Install Rebug's toggle_qa —> run it once to make sure QA flags are enabled
5) Go to network settings and simultaneously press the button combination L1+L2+L3+R1+R2+Down. If you get a debug menu then QA flags are enabled
6) Access service mode and flash Rogero v3.7 CFW (make sure USB drive is not plugged in before the system ask for it)
7) Lastly flash to OFW 4.92 or whatever firmware you want as long as it's higher than what's reported in system information

Downgrading with Rogero 9.99 Downgrader is not advised as it can lead to FW update locks. With QA Flags enabled, you can downgrade directly.
