Just curious on fan speed and heat of rsx and CPU they idle around 50c and in game more so 53c I have my fan at 40% are these numbers pretty good and what kinda life span can I expect based off of these numbers highest it has go

Yeah, are good, for a better test you should use a demanding game and keep an eye at temperatures in the points of the game where the PS3 does the higest temperature peaks

The lifespan depends of the PS3 model, but mostly of the story of that PS3, if it had hundreds of hours of usage at high temperatures is going to be more prone to failure

I'm running skyrim right now and have been for the past 3 hours and it hasn't gone about 55c that's cpu and rsx I'm on a super slim maybe about 2 years old

I mentioned the temperature peaks because there is some people that misses them, just because happens in a specific point of the game, like in the game The Last Of Us, there are 2 points of the game (where appears water) that increases the temperature a lot more than the rest of the game, is like a temperature peak, but mantained for long time (as long as you stay in that area, close to the water)

Thats the max temperature your PS3 is going to reach (worst scenario posible), is important to know that value to have the things a bit under control :)

For someone like you that is having around 55ºC while playing you should not matter much, because that peaks are around 4º or 5º more than the rest of the game
Lets say... 95% of the game the PS3 is going to be at 55ºC and at that points is going to reach 60ºC as much
Thats ok, you should not worry unless you reach 80ºC or so... and you are far away from it

And yeah, what you mentioned is important, at the time of doing this "stress temperature tests" is important to have the PS3 turned on and play the game for lets say... 50 minutes at least

So I should have a good lifetime on the console its self then

pretty much ur asking how longs a piece of string? no one can really answer it, all u can do is make sure u up keep maintenance and just play it.

What PS3 model do you have? By doing an accurated test on how good is your thermal dissipation, I'd put the fan at 30% (35 max) with The Last of Us or Uncharted 2/3 to see how much it warms with a 25-30ºC ambient temperature. If where you live is winter, then this testing is not much of a help. Obviously, having the PS3 running at 55ºC both processors is the main goal, but using the less energy possible and obviously, not needing to hear the jet turbine sound it's also what everyone want. If you didn't change the thermal paste, do it, artic silver 5 or MX4 are nice, and I think having the PS3 in vertical position is better for the intrance aire flow.
