PS3 Fat won't accept USB update

Well..

Few days ago. I bought a used ps3 fat.

There were a problem with the HDD connector. I fixed it and turned on the device.

I noticed that it had ferrox CFW. but it seemed like if CFW syscalls were disabled and every "CFW thing" was hidden with "SEN Enabler"

I went to system settings. And I saw that it was on 4.82.

I tried to install RebugCFW from USB.

It did found the firmware and it successfully moved it to HDD. And rebooted to install it.

But the sad thing is .

When it was about to finish installing %97.

An error appeared with code "8002F14E"

And it kept trying to reinstall. But every time It try to install, I get the same error..

So it did loop. Until I ejected the HDD and formated it on my laptop.

Then I tried to change the firmware with OFW 4.82.

I turned on the device. Went to safe mode.

Then tried to install the firmware..

But the PS3 took a lot of time searching for the firmware.

And after 15 minutes of searching. An error message says" A serious error has occurred. Contact technical support for assistance (8002F281).

I tried other firmwares. But the same thing happens. Any advice?

8002F14E means the bd drive daughterboard is dead, you need to install nobd cfw only, regular ofw or cfw will fail to install. 8002F281 means the Bluetooth and wifi board is dead, you need to onstall nobt cfw. It's the first time i've seen both errors at the same time though. Does the console read discs? Does it work with wireless controllers or you have to use them connected to the console via cable?

Thanks for the info..

Well. I can confirm bd can't read discs. But I can insert and eject discs normally.

Also. When the ps3 was running. I was able to search for WiFi networks. But didn't test the controller wirelessly.

And now I can't test it wirelessly as safe mode needs the controller to be wired

Can you format your HDD on PC then try again?

I'm hoping your CoreOS is still CFW.. Once it's on OFW then you will need a hardware flasher.

I don't think it would be OFW. as it was on ferrox in first place. Then I tried to change it to rebug, and then, problems appeared...

I will try to swap the HDD with my old laptop's one.

Thanks

Most likely you were using Ferrox NoBD CFW and the installation failed at the part that's installing BD driver since your BD was broken.. formatting HDD on PC + noBD CFW "should" fix your problem.

Joonie is correct, the ps3 must have been on ferrox nobd version due to previous owner knowing blueray drive is broken/not plugged in correctly.
I would bet that if you open ps3 the ribbon connector on the motherboard is broken (seems quite common in second hand cfw models these days).
Unfortunately the error ending f281 can be fatal, sometimes for lucky people it is just caused by the blueray ribbon cable being plugged in slightly slanted and sometimes can be caused by the hard drive not seated quite right. however 9 times out of 10 a ps3 I see with this error is thrown away.
Though I do not think formatting your hard drive will work as the error occurred quite late in the install process, worth a try though.

Sorry I was busy these days.

Yes indeed. I opened the console and found this tape on BD connector. Lol (Picture below)

I did remove them. And also unplugged the BD connector.

formatted the HDD as NTFS.

And installed ferrox CFW NoBD 4.82

Now it did find the update and installed it successfully..

Thank you both for taking time to replay. And for the information..

You were quite lucky, it must have been the bd ribbon being slanted due to being taped in.
Glad you got it sorted.
