PS3 PS3 GLOD (SUR-001)

Forum Noob
So basically, I have just started console repairs a few months ago, and have been working my way up since then. During this journey I have acquired many PS3s, around 30-40 or so, mainly skipping ones that have 3034 as they're complicated to fix.

Ok let me get to my point, I have a SUR-001 Board that has GLOD and I have searched every place for a solution but couldn't find so I'm making a post myself. I have done syscon and got only error 2022 (I forgot to record the step number). Checked the error code and it was a DVE error, I knew it wouldn't cause GLOD but I replaced anyways. After replacing it, nothing changed still GLOD.

So I decided to do Southbridge UART and have got the following log:

Looking for help on what this means! Any help is appreciated!

One thing to keep in mind though: if this is GLOD/no video

The console may be reaching the point where it would normally display the "correct storage was not found" or storage rebuild/update message, but if the video output path is dead, you would never see that message anyway.

That does not automatically mean the RSX is bad. It could be RSX-related, but it could also be the HDMI encoder, HDMI port, AV multi-out path, display settings, or another video-output issue.

The log does show LV2 starting and identifying the RSX:

rsx40 a01 500/650

That means the RSX is at least being detected enough for LV2 to report it, but detected does not always mean it is producing valid video output.

I'd split the troubleshooting into two paths:

  1. Storage / I/O side:
Try a known-good HDD/SSD, inspect the SATA connector, verify drive power, and see whether behavior changes with no drive installed.
  2. Video / output side:
Check HDMI port condition, HDMI encoder area, AV multi-out/composite output, display reset/safe mode behavior, and whether the console gives any picture at all on another known-good cable/display.
The 0x8001002B error points toward an I/O/filesystem mount failure, but because it is also GLOD/no display, it could be failing storage/vflash while also not showing the normal screen message due to a video-output problem.

So I would not call it "definitely NOR," "definitely HDD," or "definitely RSX." I'd say storage/vflash/I/O is the first area the log points toward, but RSX/video/HDMI output still stays on the suspect list because of the GLOD symptom.

Do you get Hard Drive light activity at all usally a GOLD unit i tend to see on power up 1 or 2 blips and that is it no more ever again but if its HDMI or something it will still keep flashing like its loading ya know but hard to say!

Simply put without a hard drive you should get a black screen that says storage not found if not then could be GLOD or could be the hdmi or av out path i would check the hard drive light activity light see what it is doing let me know!

Hello, thanks for your reply!

Ok, so to start things I have already replaced the HDMI and AV ICs and still nothing, and I have of course tried without HDD but still the same so this leaves me to suspect it's either RSX or NOR. So I ordered an E3 Flasher and it should be here by next week so I'll do a nor dump and verify if that's the issue and I hope it is. If it's RSX, I just use it as a donor board as I don't like to sell reflowed consoles and I don't have a preheater yet.

Have also more PS3s consoles with GLOD but I'll get to them after this one! Will update once arrived/fixed.

Thank you again!
