I bought a ps3 super slim for cheap the guy said it only needed a hard drive and I had a 500gb laying around but it won't accept the new hard drive when I try to update it says data corrupted and the error code is 8002F225.
Any ideas

Which model? CECH4xxxA or B? "Series A" have 16GiB eMMC which could be corrupted and probably useless (which means broken and beyond repairs if it doesn't have fw on NOR and not allow to use HDD for mass storage). First try install firmware from USB in recovery. After that it should boot fine. If not, try Restore PS3 System also from recovery. If both things failed then I don't know for sure, I haven't such models so I don't know how they act, but probably it is as I said on the beginning.

Based on dev wiki, only series A of CECH-4xxx have eMMC so it is actually good information, because eMMC cannot be replaced but HDD without problems. Speaking of which: are You sure this HDD is healthy? Because both errors point to HDD problems.

Ok when I put the hard in my pc I can format it and do all that so it looks to be ok but when I try to rebuild the database it says system storage cannot be accessed.

I have this same issue... I just purchased a nice Samsung 1tb G70 Evo and have plugged it in and get the error code to plug in a drive with the 4.89 update.

I' ve formatted a 4gb thumb drive to fat 32, made the PS3 Folder, then went into the folder and created an UPDATE folder, then pasted the pup, file.

I plug the drive into the ps3, I press and hold start & select. It checks for the drive and then reports 8002F225

I've tried this with another USB drive, only 1gb in size , formated to fat32 same error.

It's the same error code. I've pressed the PS button to restart, and it goes back to the same screen.

When I put in the old hard drive, I am able ot use the ps3 and access everthing.

Currently i'm doing a full system restore and then will try to swap drives. Anyone know the ix to this:?
