PS3 HFW 4.85.1 PUP FILE ISSUE

Hello Friends,

I am new to this space and I am wondering if you could help me. It is my first attempt on running custom software on a console and I stuck on the 4.85.1 HFW update steps.

My Console is a PS3 Slim : Serial 2003A - All relevant checks have been done using the relevant tools to ensure this model can be modded - and my firmware turned out to be 2.70.

I am currently only 4.83 OFW and I am trying to apply this 4.85.1 HFW to get onto CFW.

I am open to better options of course.

The PS3 does not recognise the PUP file. I must mention, although it extracted as PUP file it some how is showing up as a WINZIP file ???

Please see the details in the image below.

Hi and welcome to PSX-Place :)

You seem to be doing everything right, and WinRAR is somehow associated with the .PUP file extension lol but that's not an issue.

Did you use the same USB drive to check your minimum firmware with MinVerChk, for which you got the result of 2.70? Since that is the same process as installing HFW. If not, try another USB drive if possible, and make sure it's formatted as FAT32 and partitioned as MBR since the PS3 can't read GPT drives.

Hey! Thank you for taking a moment to reply and thank you for clearing the PUP/WinRAR connection lol.

Yes USB was formatted to FAT32and the MinVerChk file was placed into the same USB stick ( PS3 > UPDATE folder ) to check my firmware - and it was picked up on the XMB under Update via media storage.

Even if I take recovery mode route option it gives me the same thing. I will explore this MBR partition thingy. Ideally I was expecting it to be a smooth transition as the MinVerChk file was picked up with no issues.

Wish me luck.
Thanks again!

UPDATE!

For those of you who are experiencing issues with the HFW file not being picked up by your PS3 - despite meeting all the requirements, please see below.

All I had to do was REMOVE .PUP.

So originally I renamed the 4.85.1 HFW file to PS3UPDAT.PUP.

YOU MUST REMOVE .PUP and name it PS3UPDAT only. ( the HFW 4.85.1 extracted file type is PUP. )

Your USB should look like :

FAT32 USB > PS3 ( FOLDER )> UPDATE ( FOLDER ) > PS3UPDAT

I now have the REBUG mod CFW. Pew Pew :triumphant:

Thanks to Coldheart2236 replying.

Nah that is still needed you just have file extensions needing to be enabled on your Windows PC bud. The .PUP is hidden so what your issue was your file was actually named PS3UPDAT.PUP.PUP as you have file extensions hidden. If you go and enable that within Windows your file will "magically" be named PS3UPDAT.PUP instead of PS3UPDAT
