PS3 PS3 Net Server Tutorial

I mean with stock that ps3 games are located on pc hard drive and play them using net server
I suppose by "stock" you mean official firmware, commonly referred to as ofw!
If that's what you mean then NO, you cannot use ps3 net server.
This feature is only for consoles running cfw (customised firmware)

anyone know recommended cpu spec for netserver for 8 units ps3 to keep the game run smoothly if all the consoles load game from netserver at the same time? thx.

In this VERY specific case cpu doesn't specially matter. You need good RAID connected HDDs or SSD/SSDs to keep good data bandwith. Also 1 GB/s internet connected pc is needed.

so im thinkin of setting up ps3netsrv but am a little confused since i use wifi for the youtube app alot

will i have to switch from wired to wifi when i want to use either youtube/ps3netserv since ps3 doesnt allow 2 connection types

With only one console, it runs fine on wifi you know... No need for lan unless your wifi bandwidth is abysmal... But if YouTube is ok, ps3netsrv will probably be as well... Give it a run to see..
Some games (high resolution textured) might be a problem but so far I managed to run most of mine without lag (there can be occasional stuttering) on wifi...

Having said that I use lan or similar myself..

Btw why can't you get YouTube on lan?

A wired network is highly suggested, but some games will work fine on wireless networks with very few nodes.

As the PS3 only supports 802.11b/g, on a wireless setup it's suggested to have the PS3 segment wired to the router, so you can use 802.11n, 802.11ac or even a powerline network for the segment between the router and the PC.

A full wifi network (PC & PS3) is not really suggested, specially if it is 802.11a/b only or if there are many concurrent nodes.

Thanks Aldo for clarifying.

Currently I use powerline(lpc) for ps3/router segment + wifi n for pc/router segment.
It works extremely well even with the most demanding games.

However I found that many games were working fine with pc/router in wifi n & ps3/router in wifi g.

yeah i figured wired is best. i was confused with whether both internet/ps3netsrv worked using one cat6 cable. guess only way is to use a separate gigabit card

Why would it be a problem to have both Internet & ps3netsrv on same lan?
Why use a separate card?
I must have missed something....??

Internet and ps3netsvr should work fine on the same network. Just make sure that your firewall/router is not blocking the port 38008.

If the port 38008 is already used by another service on the PC or the firewall does not allow that value, you can try changing the port to another number.

ok, ill try it. thanks

I'm posting this because probably many users are not aware of this feature... even myself was not 100% aware of it until deank pointed it to me few days ago.

Here we go....

multiMAN (aka mmCM) not only has an ftp server... it also has a PS3 NET SERVER that runs on PS3.... and this feature has been there in mmCM for ages!!!!

That means that it's possible to mount the ISOs stored on another PS3 (that is running multiMAN) using webMAN, webMAN MOD or multiMAN on your PS3.

The steps are quite simple:
1- Start multiMAN on the PS3 that will act as server (the one that has the ISO that we want to run).
2- On multiMAN go to Settings column and set "Remote Access Permissions" to Full
3- On another PS3 use webMAN or multiMAN to connect to the PS3.

a) If you use webMAN:
- Go to /setup.ps3, put a check mark on Scan for LAN games/videos PS3NETSRV#1 (2 or 3...), enter the IP address of the PS3 acting as server, enter 38008 as port and save!!
- Use webMAN file browser to navigate to the folder containing the ISO in /net0 (or /net1, etc.) and mount it clicking on the 2nd column (size column).

b) If you use multiMAN:
- Go to Settings column, press X on Network Servers option, enable /net_host0 and enter the IP address of the PS3 acting as server, enter 38008 as port, enter a friendly name (press START on each prompt).
- Now you can go to mmOS (SELECT+START), navigate to the folder containing the ISO in /net_host0 and mount it double clicking on the file (press X twice).

IMPORTANT: multiMAN must be always running on the PS3 acting as server, unless you use webMAN MOD "full edition" (which has implemented its own PS3 NET Server).

Multi-part ISO or games in JB folders cannot be mounted with multiMAN's PS3 NET Server (neither with webMAN MOD's PS3 NET Server).

Enjoy it!!! ... all credits (and your base) belong to deank.

On 2012 only few users used Cobra USB dongle and didn't pay much attention to these Cobra features...

Now the thing are different : Cobra is a must have feature thanks to you and Cobra Team... ;)

very true, things have progressed very nicely over time. Thanks to many including yourself.

My Role was simply, ask the correct questions and demand answers for the community. Its worked out well for us all.

I agree. aldostools , the scene wouldn't be the same without u. ur a genius when it comes to the ps3. we're all very grateful for ur ps3 apps, because they've made complicated things much easier. btw, I'm still waiting on the "peek-a-bitsiboo" app that will let me see bitsbubba trying on various outfits. I hope nude is the default selection. :p

one of these days, I'll either get u, aldostools , or STLcardsWS to say a wtf. ;) I only say such things about bitsbubba ,'cause he's a good sport and to make people laugh. the jason persona is perfect. ;)

Here is pinky's voyeur side showing...
Having said that who would not like to peek a bitsboo?

I agree about all other points you made btw. There is a long list of folks, some a lot less known than others too, who deserve much thanks for researching & developing freely for the community.
What am saying may seem daft or even too full of good intentions but really, it's not that easy to code homebrews during free time because it requires a lot of said time. Am also thinking about all the guys who reverse engineered parts of the system & who are not mentioned all that often. Thousands of work hours collectively by highly skilled individuals. Without them & their skills, homebrew development wouldn't be the same.

that's exactly what I'm saying. I'm still waiting on bitsiboo/ bitsbubba to invite me to the Spring Formal this month. I bought the most beautiful, white dress with dark-colored paisleys that really bring out the color of my eyes. I hope he likes it. and, I better not get a "ur invitation must've gotten lost in the mail" excuse like last time.
