I have a PS3 Super Slim and im about to get my Dads PS3 Slim. I plan to take them both apart and replace the thermal paste but I hear you're not doing it right if you dont DELID the PS3 Slim. I dont have money to mess this up and im curious if its worth deliding? Will Delidding improve temps drasticly or will i get near that with just replacing the thermal paste on the IHS and not Both under it directly on the chip.

I have the torque screwdriver and stuff to dismantle both systems but i really need to know is deliding absolutely worth the effort. I dont OC or do extreme stuff on my ps3 i just play classics I couldnt back in the day. As for temps. I generally keep my room cold because i cant stand the heat so it says in the high 60Fs but Webman Mod does make me jump when I hear that fan on my super slim Rev up like a jet engine when i enable Hen and without the auto settings the ps3 will let my rsx reach 78C

My ps3 super slim has seen some use. My Dads Slim has seen at least a weeks worth of hours in its lifetime so im not sure how good things are going to look underneath or if i even need to mess with his system.

PS3 Slims and SuperSlims don't need deliding.

Don't know where did you get that claim, but it's incorrect.

Just use a good thermal paste and apply it evenly over the IHS.
I watch allot of youtube stuff and read reddit and everyone goes for deliding regardless of model ppl love the super slim the most due to the RSX chip being directly open. and the PHAT and Slim they all say delid it because theres thermal paste under the IHS and you wont get as good temps if you dont replace both

Deliding on PS3 is recommended only for FAT models with 90nm lithography. 65 and 40nm are OK and have no temperature issues. Also, deliding is the last option, not the rule. Not always the thermal paste is dry between the IHS and the core.

If your console is a Slim or SuperSlim with high temps, you should first check if your heatsink is seated correctly and the thermal paste is wet and evenly spreaded. Also check the fan speed, sometimes with 30 or 40% speed makes wonders with very low noise.

Broken BD Ribbon Cable. PS3SS
.
I have the PS3 SUPER SLIM and I had to dismantle it to dust it out and re paste it. problem is i snapped one end of the blue ribbon cable that goes in the back. I read a PS3 has issues if this happens. all my games are backed up and such but I read if i ever do an update lets say we get 4.93 and i update my HFW will I go into a boot loop due to the drive being gone?

The ribbon cable that is broke is the 9pin lens cable. Will this cause any update issues? I dont use the disc drive anymore but i know its needed for updates.
