I bought this PS3 online with the intention of modding it. It appears to have a dead CMOS battery, since it asks for the date/time every time it's powered on (hasn't been unplugged since I got it ~24 hours ago). Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Blu-Ray functionality are all intact. It arrived on OFW 4.91, was updated to OFW 4.93, then went through two installs of HFW 4.93.1 on XMB (though I have my doubts that those worked? Trying to update in Safe Mode wasn't working as it couldn't find the update/USB). However, attempting to use the flash writer via the browser works up until it tries to download the file (when "Downloading patch file..." appears), when it gives me error 80710A06 "An error occurred during the download operation" (which lead me to error 8001050F "The current date and time could not be obtained" when attempting to fix the former by obtaining the time via the internet in Settings) that seems to be related to the battery and its inability to obtain the correct time. I'd rather avoid opening it up due to potential problems with returning the system as well as my own lack of experience in disassembling consoles. If a battery replacement will fix it 99% of the time, however, I'm willing to do so.
- Is there any way to verify the HFW install worked? (Right now, the system says it's on "Version 4.93".)
- Can I fix error 80710A06/error 8001050F by obtaining the time some other way?
- Will a factory reset help? Is it safe to do so on HFW, or should I reinstall OFW 4.93 beforehand? Is Quick Format (low min) or Full Format (high min) recommended?
- Is HEN still an option?
