PS3 Slim CECH-2504A FW 4.83

Hello,

I recently got a PS3 Slim CECH-2504A with OFW 4.83 on it.

What can I do with her?

Main focus is homebrew and ripping my PS3 Games as ISO to play without the Disc.

Thanks in advance.

First you need to check if your model can have cfw. Google "minver" and run it from the xmb via the update from usb. If it says minimum version is 3.56 or less, you can install custom firmware.

If you can't have cfw, hen is your next choice to get game backups working.

There are good tutorials in the ps3 section of this forum.

First you need to determine the minimum FW version supported by your system using:
https://www.psx-place.com/resources/minverchk-minimum-version-checker.610/

If the system reports 3.56 or lower, your system is CFW compatible and you can proceed to patch the flash memory using:
** www.** ** www.ps3xploit.net > D... (NEW URL = http://ps3toolset.com)/bgtoolset/
(You must make this page the homepage in your PS3 browser, close it, open the browser again and follow the instructions)
Once your flash memory is patched, you can install CFW Evilnat 4.88.2

If the system reports 3.60 or higher, your system is not CFW compatible and you should install HFW 4.88 then install HEN using: http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no L... (ps3xploit.me =new)/hen/installer/index.html from the PS3 browser.

For more information about HEN:
https://www.brewology.com/?p=4576
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/update-4-88-ps3hen-v3-0-3.23955/

TIP1: Before install CFW or HEN, it is recommended that you create a new user and activate the account on PSN if you don't have one account already activated.

TIP2: Disable any automatic login to PSN or automatic update.

There is no need for the homepage gymnastics with the PS3 Toolset, that's only for the old exploits & HEN.
The Toolset should always load fine no matter what else you may have been doing with the browser before using it as long as the Flash player browser plugin is not permanently disabled in the user profile.

Also when you are on 4.8x, there is no need for minver which may be inaccurate if the console idps was modified.
You are better off loading the PS3 Toolset, the Flash memory manager tool will check the metldr & confirm whether the console is cfw compatible or not.

So it may be that even when minver displays 3.56 or lower that it maybe just not true? :D
And I was favorising the PS3 over the Xbox 360 RGH because I thought it's much easier to get a CFWable PS3 rather then checking the MFR Date for Xbox..
Therefore seems easier for me to solder the xbox than maybe get or get not a CFWable PS since I dont want HEN, I want the evilnat CFW.

Thank you all for your replies

Yes technically speaking that is correct. That's because the console idps is used by the getminver system function called by the pup app to determine the minimum installable version & it's possible to modify the idps in Flash memory on all models.

I red on reddit that it's possible to determinate it by the date code/manufacturing date.
The Console where this thread is about is Date Code 0C, most likely it's minver 3.40 due to reddit and forum posts.
It has never been opened or modded I got it from a used retail store in my town.

I would have proven but I am/was not home this weekend.

All reference details for each model can be found in the wiki.

yes, but there's no telling if it's a frankenstein or if the idps was changed (think it's the 8th byte that determines minver). you still have to be careful.

In my tests with a slim-2101A, that had OFW 4.81 installed I got a different result. I had to restart the console 3 or 4 times until it finally initialized properly. After that, the flash patching process worked smoothly.

The first time the tool complained about the inaccurate time. The next 2-3 times it didn't initialize and I had to restart the console each time, even having the tool as homepage.

BTW I'm only reporting my experience in case you can find something that could be improved. Thanks for that awesome tool.

I cannot tell you Aldo, I have never experienced any issues whatsoever with my 2 consoles after thousands of loadings & Jason never had any either on his multiple consoles during 2 years of testing.
If all pre-requirements are fulfilled (enabled Flash player, correct date & time etc..) & the Internet connection is sound & not exotic including vpns & proxies, it always works for us.
