Hey,

I bought a broken cech 3004 to repair it. I hoped it just got a faulty drive like most of them cause YLOD is no issue with this models anymore.

The fault is: It starts for 3-4 seconds than it shuts down instantly and the LED is completly off until I pull the cable and reconnect it to power. I swaped out the PSU from a working 3004, still same issue.

Is there any common issues to look for?

if it works like the one in the video, it's most likely solder issue with one of the chips. Also, if solder is the culprit, you should be able to turn your PS on if you press it above fan, or put sth from 10-15... kg o on it. I had the same issue and it worked. It's the cheapest option if works

As far i remember this happens when there is a shorcircuit in some place of the motherboard
The motherboard (or PSU) have some kind of protection to prevent catastrophic damages caused by shortcircuits (thx sony)
When you try to power on the console it does a "poooof" and the power is cutted instantly, after that if you try to press power button it looks like is completly dead (panic moment)

You need to dissassemble it completly, sometimes is caused because the metal interference shields are displaced and are touching the circuit... so try to see if everything is in place
Also, try to power it without the interference shields, only the motherboard (and heatsink and fan connected and in his places)

If thats not good enought... take a magnifyer glass and inspect the whole motherboard, maybe there is some metalic "shit" doing a shortcircuit in the pins of a component
Also, use a brush (an old toothbrush is good enought) to clean all the pins and surroundings of all the components

What video? ^^
Oh sorry, this one:

So this happened to me, model CECH 2504 and when i pressed the case from above fan, it turned on correctly. Ths is probably the easiest way to check it and if doesn't help, try to do it with the Sandungas' advice.

i used to put heavy books on top of mine when using it. otherwise it would lock-up after it got warm.

I can confirm that one. ich checked for shorts, some times it is the Wifi card to fail that causes a short on volt regulator cicuit but it isn't. this often ends in no power at all. if you got this check the wifi card section for a caps shorting to ground. in this case it is often a short on the BGA or the SMD card itself.

at this special model I can confirm this presure "trick". I bend the board while mounted in case and it wil lstay Green but no picture on the screen, so I guess some cut rails on the PCB or broken solder joints. I will try to reflow a bit tomorrow but I can'T find anything to fix directly. So I will give this thing away defective again. I found the error but don'T know where it is, so good enough for me. isn't worth it fixing. these ps3 models are less than 40€ on ebay loose.

hey sandungas, i have took apart all the metal cover sheet from the console and tooth brushed every where to short free any possible area, started the console but again no luck, 4-5 seconds green light and then console off with no light until i press the power button again and red light comes back and ready to press again for the green light for 4-5seconds, Checked the fuses and all are well. what else could i do to repair this console ? the PSU is fine also checked with another psu and the result is the same. Probably any bad component on the motherboard but i am not that much expert to find which one. I can do soldering skills and use multimeter to check some of the components but not on an expert level. could you please give some advise what should i do with my console. 3004b slim.
