PS3HEN PS3 Super Slim: Installing HEN on OFW 4.90

Hey everyone! First post on this forums. If I posted in the wrong board, please tell me, and sorry in advance.

I recently got my second in my life, PS3 Super Slim. From reading on here I understand that, my Super Slim model is only able to run PS3HEN. The only problem I am facing right now, is actually getting it to work. My console is running OFW, version 4.90. I tried installing Hybrid FW 4.90.1, but I'm unable to. While trying to install from XMB, it says "No applicable software was found". I tried multiple USB drives, various ways of formatting the drive (XMB detects all of my tested USB Drives), none of them worked. Is that because I'm already running OFW 4.90? Does that mean I have to first install it from Recovery, and then XMB? I hoped there is another way out, because I'm unable to get original DS3 now.

Thanks in advance for help!

If you're already on OFW 4.90 then you will need to install HFW 4.90.1 through recovery mode. The regular system update on OFW doesn't allow you to reinstall the same version (4.90 and 4.90.1 are the same version for that purpose), only newer versions. Recovery mode allows reinstallation of the same version and therefore will work.

Thank you, by complete coincidence I found an old DS3 SixAxis Controller for dirty cheap, so I was able to install HEN!
The only other question I've got, will I'll be able to install HEN first on the Flash 12GB storage, and then transfer it to another HDD?

No. If you replace the HDD you will need to reinstall the firmware, since in NOR consoles (all slims and super-slims are NOR) part of the firmware is stored on HDD. When you boot up the PS3 the first time after replacing the HDD it'll ask you to insert a USB disk with a firmware file before you can proceed to XMB. You can directly reinstall HFW at that point though, no need to install OFW first. After you get to XMB you will need to reinstall HEN too, since HEN is installed on the HDD.

And just in case I misunderstood you - It's not possible to install HEN on external disks. HEN can only be installed on the internal HDD. It is also not possible to install HEN from a USB disk. The USB disk is only used to install the HFW, which is a requirement for installing HEN, but is not HEN itself. Use the ps3xploit website to install HEN. If for some reason you can't connect your PS3 to the Internet you can also self-host the exploit and run it from your LAN, but if for some reason your PS3 can't connect to any network (e.g. broken Ethernet port and WLAN chip) then you're out of luck.

Probably all will be transferred. "eMMC models" asking to copy all data stored on eMMC (from presumable VHDD section) to HDD when connected. In case of "NAND and NOR models", it doesn't.

Thank you. As you said, it seems like everything is alright after the transfer to SSD I got for it.
I think that's all the questions I had, works as intended, no problems at all.
Thanks again!
