PS3HEN Ps3 SuperSlim slow game copy

Hello guys. Just hacked my ps3 with hen and everything go fine. But I have a doubt: is the ps3 superslim that slow for copying games with irisman and stuff? Also, I have some games that I tried to rip, but they got a error like the disc were scratched. Then tried with a normal slim and it perfectly ripped the game. Is the slim bd drive better or is my superslim that have a problem? Playing games with disc doesn't have any problem...

It should not be slower, i guess what happens is your superslim have the laser a bit more worn than your other slim, or the laser is more dirty

Thanks for reply man. I try it, and its not slow. It takes regular time to rip a disc, but disc have to be in perfect status, if it is a bit scratched, it will fail, but my normal slim copy it very easy. Any suggestion of laser maintain? Or how to clean it?

OK, lets say... the laser of your superslim is less tolerant with the reading errors than the laser in your other slim
In general all lasers gets "blind" with the usage, is something normal, relativelly easy to repair and not much expensive, so no panic :)

Most probably the discs you are trying to read have some problem (fingerprints, very subtle scratches, etc...). The laser of the slim "eats" them gracefully but the laser of your superslim cant handle them
I would start by inspecting the discs under a spotlight/lamp to see if is worthy to clean them. Sometimes i use to clean them under warm water with shower gel (neutral PH), but the way i do it is not so easy to explain. I create lot of foam, then i clean the surface with my hands, but almost without touching it

The laser lens can be clean too, but before starting is needed to be sure that is dirty, i use a magnifyer glass/loupe to check it
Incase of doubt is better to dont touch it, is very delicated

I made a drawing time ago trying to explain how i clean them with cotton eart sticks
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/serious-laser-issues-scph-39003.22649/#post-160001

Is needed to prepare the stick a bit with the curvature of the lens, and do it veeeery gently because the lens is like "levitating" in the air, when you touch it with the cotton ear sticks it moves because we are "pushing" it in down direction... but we should not push it too much because it have some copper wires all around it that could get deformed

Let me explain what i do to clean the discs with shower gel, i mentioned it in the forum before but never explained it well :D
First i drop some shower gel in my hands and i rub them to create lot of foam (and keep the foam in your hands)
When you are ready... drop some more shower gel in your hands... but dont rub them much... the goal is to create foam with high density
The foam needs to create a "layer" over your skin... so is acting like globes

After that you should start by wetting the disc under the water tap
Then apply the foam very carefully (without touching the disc surface)
And place your finger in the water tap to "spray" the disc surface with water
Repeat as many times is needed

In short... you are placing your hand veeeery close to the disc surface (a fraction of milimeter, the kind of thing where you feel the surface, but you also feel that there is some gel in between your skin and the disc surface), so you are not really touching it
Is the water "sprayed" who cleans it :)

Edit:
And btw... after this process is needed to "spray" lot of water to remove all the foam
And dont dry it with a towell or anything (because we dont want to touch the disc surface). What i do is to insert the index finger in the disc hole and perform (lol) some movements like doing a vertical slash with a sword very violently (be careful where you do it to dont hit any furmiture, persons, pets, etc... lol)
This movements are going to remove all the waterdrops from the surface, after that is almost dry

So honored to be the first :D man that is usefull i will try it now.
There is a few old discs that I need to clean.
Then backup them. I need to get that lens too, but i need to find the alcohol.

Hey man, I come back with another doubt. If i need to change the lens, it is particular model or I can use any of them? I think that my lens is worst every second. Try to clean it and my ps3 still have reading error in irisman:c

For a superslim ?, you can check in this table, but there are not much reports of superslim, it seems the KES-850A (laser pickup) could work, but im not sure
https://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/Bluray_Drive#Bluray_Drive_Revisions

The best you can do is to take a look at your actual laser, it have an sticker with the model, sadly it seems in KES-850A the sticker is covered by some metal, is this photo, the sticker with the QR code... the name should be at his left in that same sticker

@sandungas

I do something weird, but... it works?

Look, I move the lens and it copy the mortal kombat komplete.

What do you think?
Well, based on your previous comments, and in general... there is always a point in his lifespan where the laser is at his limit, usually because the diodes have weakened (so the laser beam have less power), etc...

At that point is when appears random errors, e.g. a game that loads fine today but tomorrow doesnt loads... or it loads only if you place the console in vertical (yeah, this myth is true, the laser reads better when the console is in vertical position)
Those are the kind of signals that the laser is having problems... after the lens cleanup (to confirm that it was nto caused by dust) we can only conclude that the problem is going to increase exponentially in the next days/weeks. In othr words, the laser is agonizing and is going to die soon

In some way you are are lucky to have that synthomns, sometimes it happens that the laser dies instantly (without any previous advise), you know... now it works perfect and 1 hour later doesnt works at all (completly blind), when this happens there is no confirmation of the problem, the only thing you can do is to buy a new laser and pray

But as said... in this case if i had to bet (based in the few info i got) i would say you have a high probablitity of fixing it by replacing the laser

My suggestion is to wait a few more days before ordering the laser... your goal now is to stress it and kill it. If you kill it is going to be the definitive confirmation that it was about to die
You only need to play some games with it, the most you play the most frequent will appear the reading errors, u to the point where is not going to be able to read anything

Hi man.
I have exactly that lens. What about that thing of remarry the BD? I need to do that for change the lens or something, or just mounting the new lens it will work? Sorry for bother, that ps3 is my only distraction now lol

no need to remarry on superslim models. also not needed for cech-3xxx and cech-25xx slims.

Is just a matter of replacing the part, and is relativelly easy to do :encouragement:
Can you see in the photo it have 2 "holes" in a side ?, there is a cylindrical bar for them, and that bar have an screw in one of the extremes. What you need to do is to remove that screw, this allows you to "lift up" the bar a bit, and after that you can remove the laser easilly
The most important thing to keep in mind is you need to be very careful, dont touch the "dual lens" with your finger, and when you are struggling with the parts dont "drop" the laser by mistake, a hit could damage it specially if the hit happens in that "dual lens" piece at the center it could be an insta-kill

part of the problem might be the model. I have a super slim 12GB, which I bought about a month ago. I put in a 1TB hdd, and copied the internal flash to the hdd, which took about 20 minutes with nothing on it. downloading and installing was also noticeably slower than my slim cfw system. I'm not sure if it was the system or the hdd that was slow.

Thanks you very much guys (: is just a matter of time to that lens to get killed lol
Yeah, dont get paranoid with it, all lasers dies soon or later, lets say... is like the tyres of a vehicle, everytime you use the velicle the tyres are damaged a bit

Just for curiosity sake, a laser diode looks like this, is very simple, only have 3 pins and 1 of them is not connected... so is like a bulblight (or a LED)

What the circuitry of the laser does with the diode is like this:
Normal reading = normal voltage to the diode
Reading problems = more voltage to the diode
More reading problems = a bit more more voltage to the diode
Etc...

The voltage increments shorts the lifespan of the diode, is like if we are pushing the diode over his limits

Even my games are taking some time to Install data and loading it, but it is only in my superslim. I've tried changing hdd but it was slow to.

On Iris, I can say that is not slow, but is a bit more slow than my friend slim one.

Maybe a electric problem in my house (like a blackout or something) can destroy my lens? (Based on the voltage increments) I'm facing some blackouts and they destroyed some hdds in my PC :l

if you haven't already try cleaning the laser with little bit of Methylated spirits or cleaning product similar such as standard rubbing alcohol using a cotton bud over it lightly. I use to have issues like this with the xbox 360 and when talking to randoms on PSN over the year's that where having issues with games that kept messing up I told them to do it and solved the issue 9/10 times, also my old CECH4000 use to fail to read disc sometimes and this would fix it, also the HDD in the system can sometimes be to blame, for example I had a 500GB hdd I transferred from a CECH4000 to a CECH2000 which crapped its self after installing GTA V, was taking over a minute to load textures, games where freezing or struggling to load, XMB was really laggy etc and if I tried reinstall firmware was getting stuck on 99%. So I swapped to SSD's in all my systems. The CECH4000 run the best of all the models with a SSD though the system can never really take full advantage of a high grade one, I mainly bought mine for the memory features which saved my data during power surges more times then I can count. To give you an idea over 8 years I blown 10 TV's, had multiple console's with burn marks inside the PSU from power surges even though I was using a surge protector and the random shutting off due to the surges where I lived. Think around 7 of the HDD 's I had messed up over a two year period when surges get really bad, So was a good investment for me as never had a SSD fail when I lost power.

Though I lived in middle of nowhere and power would go out if it rained, surges where frequent. Getting solar power fixed the overall issues with power surges but prior to that was all about quality surge protectors and maintain electronics when the board failed as replacing them wouldn't make sense in this situation.

Sorry about getting off topic though hopefully this information is helpful to somebody.
