PS3 PS3 to PS3 plus a Clone

I have two PS3s. A slim and a SuperSlim. The SuperSlim is a bit... rough as it was a second hand unit I repaired - so I prefer to use the original slim as primary but with a new hard drive in both.

I'm worried about the hard drive in my primary slim, and I've been looking into ways to back it up. A simple backup utility backup won't work because of the amount of SingStore content I have - it's encrypted...

Surely doing the direct system transfer (which copies protected content) to a new the SuperSlim I should then be able to pop a new drive in the old slim (now in a reset state) and transfer the data back to it?
I have heard that some people have used the normal Backup Utility and that has prevented the System Transfer tool from transferring protected content.

My ultimate goal would be to have one system purely for the SingStore collection, and one for everything else. In theory, could I use the PC cloning tools, to backup the current Slim Hard Drive, and then transfer all data to the Super Slim for SingStar use and then restore the Cloned Image to the Slim (irrelevant if SingStar functions or not) but still use all content while signed in to PSN?
