PS3 PS3HEN 3.4.0 + HFW 4.92 - Officially released by esc0rtd3w of Team PS3Xploit

PS3 Developer @esc0rtd3w has released the latest update to PS3HEN with support to recent firmware update of 4.92. Along with the PS3HEN update is the release of Hybrid Firmware (HFW), which is just an official firmware (4.92) with the "silk_webkit.sprx" file replace from 4.82 OFW (that has a vulnerability patched in 4.83 OFW, the last attempt Sony made to curb homebrew). HFW was created by @Joonie and has been apart of this 4.92 release of well.

There have been a number of new changes in this update marked v3.4.0 as it does not just provide 4.92 support but various changes as seen in the changelog provided

When we see the release of @bguerville's PS3 Toolset very soon for 4.92 we will see an alternative method for PS3HEN user's with the new File Explorer feature, that will provide expanded features to the toolset for all, one of them for PS3HEN user's being the ability to replace the "silk_webkit.sprx" file without the need of HFW installation. More on that will revealed when we see the 4.92 update roll out for the ps3 toolset.

@esc0rtd3w The PS Home link/installer for the HEN 4.92 update is disingenuous. This link takes users to one specific PlayStation Home server when there is more than one active community, essentially funnelling those who update (and those downloading for the first time) into one place unfairly. The server of which this installer is attached to, is the least populated and does zero community outreach to build an organic community, unlike that of Destination Home or Home Headquarters does.

I would advocate for it's outright removal for falsely marketing itself as the only PlayStation Home server or a request to add the other servers to the installer also for fairness. One cannot just scheme their way to building up a community by manipulating links forcibly directing users to one specific server, I would think. Integrity is important after all.

I had an issue with the HEN, but now i believe it was my USB-drive that made the error. After re-downloading and using another USB-drive, everything works like a charm.

Thank you so much for providing us with this!!

Also, the PS Home that now comes with HFW and CFW is not the official PlayStation Home either. Its the QA version and not the retail version. It might also be using a different serial ID too

So here are HHQ to cause some drama eh?

falsely marketing itself as the only PlayStation Home server
Wow, where did this ever happen? You made all that up

Anyone can install any pkg they want. JUST LIKE BEFORE! This is simply an EXTRA feature that you can use or not use.

Not once have I said its the only server, quite the opposite, We even allow people to talk about and post videos from other servers in our discord, You wont see DH allowing that will you, people get banned for mentioning us there,

It uses the official original title ID of the pkg, NPIA00005, and its the better build for many reasons. Simple as that.

  • No need to change MAIN PS3 Primary DNS which is a security risk as all PSN data then gets routed though your server too.
  • Allows for custom content to be loaded locally
  • Allow for players to make private lobbies in public spaces for private events
  • All of our catalogue features and RTRC are built around it
  • We are not about gatekeeping the better builds for Staff only like DH and HHQ do.

On this point, I stand corrected as it should say start with seemingly, as it is a claim based on the wording chosen on your initial response. The rest of what was said stands. Any new user who did not have PlayStation Home on their system prior to installing the update is forcibly sent the way of Home Laboratory and that is by manipulative design of your making, nobody else's, since you are credited for it's existence.

I'm not interested in bringing up drama between groups, as this is not the place. I am simply arguing for fairness and good faith in regard to this update surrounding all PlayStation Home communities and you have not acted in either.

This must be rectified in order to restore balance and fairness. One is not better or more significant than the others.

What are you talking about?

The creators of HEN are allowed to add whatever features they want, what gives you the right to come here demanding anything from anyone, who do you think you are?

I am credited here cos I made the files, rco/xmls that enabled the icon to reappear, and also I reversed the whole feature in the first place years ago so its even possible to bring it back on the XMB, that's why my name is there, its Credit for the feature.

What makes you think you are owed anything, what makes you think adding a link to a pkg is saying any other pkgs don't exist? What you seem to be saying is that if anyone wants to promote their own Home project, they now have to also promote every other

I've not claimed any server is owed anything other than fairness from am entity that is not attached to any one server. The only individual laying claim to anything is you. You do not own HEN or get to decide what the team compile into their updates.

I am inclined to believe there was some misleading involved on your part as you underhandedly advocated for the server you are involved in and forced it on everyone else at the expense of other servers that make up this community with this update feature.

I'm sorry that this makes you angry, even if it's completely unjustified and incomprehensible, but equity for all in third party firmware is paramount and I would like to think that most would agree with that sentiment.

As far as PS home drama, I added that because he requested it, simple as that.

I personally have no problem offering users a choice if it can be made easy to access, and there are multiple credible projects that are being used.

I know nothing about the PS home communities, and like I said, I added that because it was requested and Devil has made many contributions over the years.

underhandedly? what.

My post is pretty clear. I dont see DH or HHQ promoting HL to be "fair" or "balanced". Every time they mention their project should they not also tell everyone its not the only project, in the interests of fairness?

Ok thankyou for clarifying. But yes I think there should be an option for other PS Home PKGs to be installed. For HHQ, DH (they have a whitelist currently) and HL.

Hello and thank you for your response on this matter. That's understandable. If that's how it is, then I have no further quarrel and apologise for bringing unnecessary drama to your forum.

It is my hope, then, that you'll at least consider a request from us, should it be feasible to implement. Splicewave will have the specifics.

Thank you to you and your team for all that you do for the homebrew community.

If its added in the PUP file, I think the best way to do it is to make another PUP file for the other PS Home projects to include their PS Home PKG. Then users can easily choose which PS Home project to install.

It's not added in the PUP, it's just a query in the XML that downloads the PKG.

IMO, Providing multiple home clients would be confusing for end users. HL is the only home server that doesn't require a DNS change due to its QA build for all, which helps avoid a lot of trouble for users. Additionally, it is a true open-source project, unlike DH.

From a development perspective, HL is also the best choice, as they build everything themselves, ensuring continuous fixes and improvements. It also offers fantastic tools like RTM, among others.

Another important factor is the reputation of DeViL303, who has consistently contributed to numerous projects, including HEN and his own, and is well known in the community.

In conclusion, HL is the best choice due to all its advantages.

Personally, I use both HL and HHQ, and I would like to see them cross-play someday. Ideally, all home servers (HHQ, DH, HL, etc.) should support it, but it's not that simple, and as you know, and DL has a whitelist.

Meanwhile advanced and experienced users can still download and use other Home servers by their own.
