PS3HEN PS3HEN - Official Release Thread (Homebrew Enabler for the PS3) v3.5.0 (4.93 support)

I'm a little confused, what fan setting is recommended for someone on a ps3 slim? People said dynamic fan control can cause crashes... What should I be using? Auto #2? Syscon? Manual at x%?

Using WMM 1.47.25

Thanks!

Only conflicts with MultiMan, and supossed to be fixed in 1.47.25

Inside the config of the webManMod, change the fan settings to Syscom or manual (42~44)

I can't load webman Mod it black screens, sMan has a setup option that opens many settings including fan control at local host 127.0.0.1

Is there a way to completely remove webMan Mod config settings? Or would i have to flash firmware again maybe?

Inside the config, there is an option to remove it from the system...

Evening journal :

- using Webman Mod + PSN Patch results in random freezes
- using Irisman / Multiman + disc or stick inserted results in random freezes
- i replaced webftp_server.sprx by Aldo with the older one by Dean , but it just does not appear in the XMB or work ( connection by FTP failed )
- so i completely removed boot_plugins.txt and webftp_server.sprx and freezes dissapeared but some bugs still occur such as freezes when rebooting the console , discs are not shown in latest Multiman and Irisman .

So , for now..KISS ... keep it super simple

the connection failing might be due to overriding an active file. it does this on the 3ds as well. if you try replacing the boot.firm via ftp, the system should crash. you might've had success if you had used rebug toolbox (does this work on hen?) or openps3ftp.

When playing an ISO from Multiman and Irisman from an External Hard drive, I keep getting a disc error whenever i have occupied the 2 usb ports in front of the ps3. I keep getting the error when i plug in and charge the ps3 controller, no matter which usb port i use while playing. So whenever i play with an external hard drive(NTFS), play an ISO game, then try to charge the ps3 controller when in-game i get a disc read error.

This is becasue your PS3's USB ports can only supply a limited amount of power and your HDD will be needing most of it as it is constantly being read from by the PS3 for playing the game so when you try to charge the controller you are taking power away from the HDD. And also by doing this you can damage the HDD and corrupt the data on it.

If using external HDDs you really should be using one that has its own way of being powered> eg 5v DC adapter to the mains or the the way I do it is to use an 5v DC mains powered 4 Port USB Hub or similar so your HDD always has the power it needs and you can still charge your controllers.

Eg> I have a 5v DC 4 port USB Hub connected to a powered 4 port USB vertical PS3 stand so thats 8 USB ports for one PS3 with full power, I can charge 4 controllers at the same time as well as having upto 4 external HDDs connected all with the power they need. If both USB hubs were not powered I would constantly be getting the USB power exceeded error. And I did till I had the vertical stand powered by 5v DC as well.

If you have an external HDD that has 2 usb's one one side for data and extra power what you can do is get a USB extenstion cable and plug the other usb cable into that then plug the extention cable into a USB 5v phone charger adpater for the mains.

yeah, I'd suggest not plugging anything extra into the same usb port. I burned out a couple hdds by doing that. the system will show that there's a problem, but by that time, the damage may be too late. my hdds died instantly. I believe the 4 usb ports on the original phat systems - their points are still on the motherboard (maybe even on slims?), so some people have used them to add another usb port to the back of the system.

Yeah you also have to be carefull with Powered USB hubs as the power goes BOTH ways, as in it will power the devices connected to the ports but also feed power the other way.. so in this case its feeding it back into the PS3... so too much and you will fry your PS3.

Am just lazy and don't like swapping HDDs all the time when wanting to play game lol.... 1TB internal HDD and 4 2TB External HDDs... think I have enough HDD sapce but I need more lol there all full nearly. Also I have them set out by game series and such.

I have not checked this on my slims about the USB mounting points on the MB, if i remember the next time I open it I will have a look.

Woah. What are you saying? Using an external hdd could be harmful? I've been using mine with two USB connectors. It's been working fine for months now... Should I stop? Should I be worried?
... Using ps3 slim, by the way...

not really. I overloaded one of the usb ports. it should be able to accommodate an unpowered hdd, but don't plug more into it. that's why I'd suggest not using a hub, even if powered.

i have a problem. im on hen 2.3.1 . hen enables correctly but iwhen i try to start usb installed homebrew i get 80010017 on every app or a blackscreen on some like retroarch . when itry to re-enable hen it says "reboot error" and restarts , then the first enable works again but homebrews doesnt run. (the internal homebrew downloader doesnt work for some reason)

From my experience with HEN, having plugins like webman or sman bring more freezes than running 4.84 HEN stock. So I'm just using PS3HEN 2.3.1 and Irisman to load the games I want.

I haven't tried the latest webman mod 1.47.25 yet, that it should bring less issues (e.g., incompatibility with multiman, and the fan control stuff), but for now as you said, I prefer to 'KISS'

btw, from what I recall about the original webman by Deank, you needed to edit some .XML file in order to show up in the XMB. So it was like a manual setup, not just uploading the server.sprx plugin. From the readme.txt:
* Edit your category_game.xml (/dev_blind/vsh/resource/explore/xmb/category_game.xml)
