PS3HEN PS3HEN - Official Release Thread (Homebrew Enabler for the PS3) v3.5.0 (4.93 support)

My super slim PS3 is 4.22 official(and Update 4.87) than when I want to jailbreak it by ps3exploit, it notifies me that your ps3 is not compatible. how can I do that? thanx
There are potentially various ways for you to go with currently available jailbreak solutions for non "CFW compatible" consoles.

Note that PS3HEN is a runtime hack, the partial jailbreak it provides must be reapplied after each boot. Once HEN is installed & enabled on your console, remember never to install/use homebrews that are not HEN compatible like CCAPI or any homebrew or homebrew features that modify system files permanently. When in doubt, just ask in the forum..

Here are 3 options to set up PS3HEN on your console using official PS3Xploit team files.

1. Update to HFW 4.88 (no need to install OFW 4.88 first) & use the online service to install PS3HEN from **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) and/or to enable PS3HEN after boot.

2. Update the console to HFW 4.88 via USB storage (no need to install OFW 4.88 first), then download the PS3HEN release files for 4.88 & host them on a simple http server on your LAN (PC, Smartphone etc..), run the installer & the enabler in the ps3 browser using your local http server IP address. Such a local setup allows you to install & enable HEN without Internet connection.

3. Remain on 4.87, first you will need to install HFW 4.87 from recovery mode (enter recovery mode with the appropriate power button sequence, see S#ny's official online ps3 documentation if you don't know the button sequence) if the console is currently on OFW 4.87, then download the PS3HEN files for 4.87 & host the files on a simple http server on your LAN (PC, Smartphone etc..), run the installer & the enabler in the ps3 browser using your local http server IP address.
Keep in mind that on 4.87, you will not be able to connect to PSN.

The online HEN tools (installer/enabler) can be accessed at http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no L... (ps3xploit.me =new)/hen/installer/index.html

The release files & the HEN resources pkg for each HFW version can be downloaded from **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new).

HFW 4.88:

http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no L...me =new)/hen/release/PS3HEN_3.0.3_4.88_FW.zip

HFW 4.87:

http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no L...me =new)/hen/release/PS3HEN_3.0.3_4.87_FW.zip

The latest PS3HEN files including source code can also be found at
https://github.com/PS3Xploit/PS3HEN

HFW 4.87 & 4.88 PUP files can be found in this forum, check the OP in these 2 threads, HFW 4.87.1 & HFW 4.88.1

Follow Coro's guide if you need step by step instructions & details.

im having this problem when im trying to install hen it wont let me. The initialize Hen installer worked but it wont let me install hen
The most common problem with the current online PS3HEN installer is the exploit initialization, but if you follow the steps below, the HEN installer (and all other ps3xploit tools based on the old exploits running on HFW) should initialize just fine.

First in your ps3 browser, set the homepage to "blank page", then when it's done, you can either

1. Add the ps3 hen installer page (http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no L... (ps3xploit.me =new)/hen/installer/index.html) to your ps3 browser favourites then restart the ps3 browser & use the favourite to launch the ps3 hen installer. Don't browse any page before launching the hen installer/enabler favourite.
You will need to enable HEN after every boot to use its features, so keeping it in the favourites is useful anyway to avoid having to retype the URL again & again.

OR

2. Restart the browser, in the address bar, enter the exact URL of the ps3 hen installer/enabler (http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no L... (ps3xploit.me =new)/hen/installer/index.html), never browse to this page from another page.

In the next PS3HEN update, the initialization issues will be ironed out (they are caused by a bug in the javascript code), the steps above will no longer be needed.

Other than the initialization issues, I cannot think of many ps3hen exploit problems so if your issue isn't with initialization, it is quite likely that you simply failed to follow the installation steps exactly, in which case you might wanna double check the instructions again, make sure that you haven't missed a step or something..

I recommend that beside the posts in this thread, you also refer to the ps3hen installation guide thread for advice & common problems, whatever problem you may experience, you can bet someone else had it already, posted about it & answers/solutions were provided.
And if it's not the case or you cannot find anything related (I realise that reviewing thousands of posts isn't ideal), you need to help us to help you, for that we need more details, post screenshots of the issue if relevant/possible & give as much information as you can about the problem, what steps were successful & what steps failed, if you got errors, post the error number/message, etc..

For user convenience, if ever for some reason the regular installer fails to work on a console, the ps3xploit team provided an alternative ps3hen installer, it uses a fake p3t theme file to deploy the PS3HEN exploit payload, as a last resort, you can try that version instead, the URL is http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no L...loit.me =new)/hen/installer/manual/index.html.

i'm looking for a category_game.xml that has the standard Install Package Files option and not the Package Manager . Is this compatbile with HFW 4.88 ? I'm downloading demos from Playstation Store and it always hides them under Package Manager - Playstation Network Content . I would like them in the XMB like normal .

You could extract that file from a CEX CFW pup with PUADGUI & reuse it.
Or alternatively the xml needed for that feature can be found in the wiki, you can add it to an ofw category_game.xml with a simple edit.

I don't know if anyone posted the problem already but, I'm having trouble enabling HEN, I haven't used HEN in a while and the only version on my PS3 I have it's 4.85

So basically what happened is that:

I pressed Enable HEN and the page froze, but the clock still going and now it just stuck like this, I pressed circle and it just froze entire thing but menu background still going, I turned off and heard two beeps and turned back on and It's normal. No matter what I do is that I cleaned all browser datas (cookies, logins, history and stuff like that) Added alternative installer on bookmark and it works (which reinstalls the thing), It did updated HEN or something like that. However, when I go enable HEN, it still doesn't work. I did online date and time, Nope it still doesn't work, it still does this.

So my question is that, should I update my PS3 or keep the version because it's been a while since I haven't used PS3HEN.

Are you 100% sure you are using the right HEN files including a payload compatible with 4.85 if your console is running on HFW 4.85?
If you aren't sure, you can get the appropriate files from the github.com/PS3Xploit/HEN repo & host them yourself from your PC or smartphone.

Note that there is absolutely no advantage in remaining on 4.85. I would suggest you update to HFW 4.88 & install latest HEN using the **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) online HEN installer service.

For more reliable results with the online installer, you should first set up your browser as follows.
1. Open browser & in the settings (triangle button), set the browser homepage to "blank".
2. add http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no L... (ps3xploit.me =new)/hen/installer/index.html as a browser favourite.
3. Close the browser.

To install/enable HEN, start the browser & launch the favourite without browsing any other page beforehand.

@awesomeface349 i had one super slim that would not enable HEN untill after i changed the hard drive. it had ran HAN for months.

you can take the drive out and try another (the new drive will be formatted!). if you put the original drive back in, the ps3 can still use it (without formatting).

Seems like it is caused by a plugin

Create a blank file named boot_plugins.txt on your USB drive, plug it into the PS3 and try to enable Hen.

For information.

A couple of weeks ago I started to work on a HEN Installer/Enabler 2.0. Since its initial release, I decided not to get involved with the HEN project but while the payload has seen a number of improvements, I cannot fail to notice that little improvements have been made since then to the javascript or the exploits.
Keeping in mind that esc0rtd3w has been busy with other things & he has already given a lot of his free time for the team's projects & my own, testing, tweaking, updating, maintaining etc..
The GUI is still rough & ugly, all the js code weaknesses & bugs are still there, intact, after so many months & so many people using it, no related pull requests or fork.
Overall it's a little disappointing but anyway, since nobody else is interested, I thought I would make some improvements to the old exploits for 2 reasons:
1. Until I (or someone else, we can always hope) release something new, maybe through the actionscript engine implementation in xmb, the old exploits remain the best ones to use to make offline tools.
2. I am still planning to release a mamba loader which will de facto make PS3HEN obsolete (although it's not at all the objective) but I don't know when. I already have a new lv2 kernel exploit implementation ready for the Mamba Loader & a lv1 bug to investigate but I am still finishing the file manager tool for my ps3 toolset & I don't have all that much time to dedicate to ps3 development, the Mamba Loader tool may take a while to surface. I may just as well improve the current HEN tools so that in the meantime, HEN users have tools that are fast, 100% reliable & don't require any specific gymnastics with the browser to initialize properly.

After a couple of weeks of work, I now have a new HEN installer that initializes instantly all the time & includes the PS3HEN bin file compressed with zlib from 1.1Mb down to 48kb.
The installer allocates some memory, creates an external thread that uncompresses the data, once uncompressed, the kernel gets exploited, the payload installed in memory & the HEN sprx copied, finally the external thread closes, each installation step gets validated, the allocated memory is freed & a popup displays the success status of the installation & the browser closes automatically.

Now that the ground work is done, I am thinking about improving the GUI, not sure what I am going to do about it yet.

Anyway all this to say that you can expect new HEN tools to be released some time before the end of the year, maybe for the ps3xploit team first release anniversary in October. I don't have a more precise ETA, I never do actually lol so please do not ask.

Is there any news about this development? What will be the diferences between this and HEN?

The wall of text already says the differences. LOL
* initializes instantly all the time
* PS3HEN bin file compressed with zlib from 1.1Mb down to 48kb.
* thinking about improving the GUI (not sure)
* don't have a more precise ETA

At this moment it is better to wait until the next FW update is released. Although the chances that the exploit would get fixed are low, it is a possibility.

1. HEN Tools have never been a priority for me, at least not since I walked out from their development ages ago.
2. There is no active ps3xploit team anymore, I am the last contributing member still standing at the time of writing, esc0rtd3w's status is uncertain, he may contribute again, the others are retired.
3. At this time, I am working on the next PS3 Toolset update rollout, when it's finished, I will look at finishing the HEN update, I am hoping that esc0 will give me hand with the testing. The Toolset update was originally meant to roll out last December but there were last minute changes, I decided to add a number of new features hence the extra waiting time.

How do you build hen whats the tools needed is it just mingw and ps3dev2 or do you need the official ps3sdk also
The psdk3v2 archive is a complete Psl1ght setup for Windows, it's not exactly recent but it should already contain everything you need to compile the HEN payload including mingw, the only exception might be the ps3dev2 folder which you may need to source elsewhere depending on which psdk3v2 archive you downloaded, there are several out there all based on the same files (from Estwald?).

However you will ONLY be able to compile the HEN payload, not the HenPlugin sprx file, that requires the official SDK.

That could be because the sprx didn't get compressed correctly with scetool.
Or something else...
Is scetool correctly installed?
What happens If you open a command prompt in the HenPlugin folder and run
Code:
scetool -k
How big is the HenPlugin.sprx file produced by the compilation project?

In cmd its a command not found but in mingw it is installed i believe since it gives me options and commands

And im it sure how big the sprx is getting but when i build the henplugin folder with mingw it builds, and its only 6kb and the prx is 12kb

*Edit i found the sprx that was getting produced with the .bat script and it was 70kb in size is that bad? but then again when i ran make in the henplugin folder and it was only 6kb so it must be how woud you go about installing scetool because i did notice at the start it would say error about scetool not being found also
