PS3 PS3Xploit - > "STAY ON 4.81 OFW IF YOU CAN! (PS3 2k5/3k/4k Models)" says habib

The PS3Xploit Team (@bguerville / @esc0rtd3w / @habib / "W") have been putting in alot of time further developing the exploit since the discoveries found initially on 4.81 OFW by bguerville, Which first spawn tools like IDPS & Flash Dumper's followed then by Flash Writer Tool which allowed all pre-25XXv (fat/Slim) Consoles to install CFW from 4.82 OFW with no Hardware Modifications. Since those releases we have seen PS3Xploit updated to v2.0 also seen alot of documentation and action with various POC Examples provided by esc0rtd3w (& team) in the "WebKit ROP Chain Tutorials [Creation/Editiing/Debugging]" thread, The one thing that has been missing has been a useable exploit for those "unhackable models" and the team has had a desire with their exploit as an ideal window, the task takes alot of time and developing but progress is being made. There is still much work to be done but an interesting announcement comes to us from one of the PS3xploit developer's habib as he states "STAY ON 4.81 IF YOU CAN!(2k5/3k/4k)" , now its unclear what has been achieved and its not certain that it can not be ported to 4.82, but currently in the early stages habib gives us great news but also maybe some bad news (maybe), but again these details and the development is extremely early. More details coming soon stay tuned as things are looking to progress but please exercise patients!!!​

  i can't say why i want you guys to stay on this firmware but its for something good
  if you have 4.82 it doesn't mean the stuff cant be applied to you but it means not 100% of stuff will be capable for you ​

I've been following this thread for days, and I'd like to thank this team too for the work they're doing. Since I know about the existence of the ROP chain method for inject games, I've been thinking about inject the ones I like most. But those who have ever tried this method would know the long time it takes. I hope that your work allows us to load games without doing the system backup which is a madness if the hard drive is full. Should I prepare a PS3 with my favourite games or the advances that will come would deserve the wait?

Thats a good deal, if its working and has a controller you should get it , cant go wrong at that price tbh. These guys will come through eventually. Don't wait until something gets released, Because there might a be a few people with their eye on it.

 

finding a hackable ps3 slim is hard over here so I'll just wait

Previous post has link for HAN, which is your only option with super slim
If you get a model 25XX or earlier with a minver of 3.55 or lower, CFW is also an option (which is much nicer)

I would recommend reading this guide on how to install HAN. Also, this excellent HAN all in one guide by @Fin9ersMcGee will help you with queries once HAN is installed.

You need to update to 4.81 or 4.82 - both work:

PS3Xploit Tools v3.0 is a suite of 6 tools supporting both official firmware versions 4.81 & 4.82. The only pre-requirement to use HAN is to have an activated PSN user account.

You can download OFW for both versions from here and here for 4.81 and 4.82 respectively. You can use any of the download links; JP, US, EU etc. - choosing the mirror closest to your location may download quicker, but that's the only difference.

There is no forthcoming jailbreak for late 25xxx - 3xxxx and later models due to the updated encryption method (metdlr2) on models with a minimum factory firmware of 3.60 and higher. HAN is all that's available for the foreseeable future, which is a whole lot better than nothing considering a year ago HAN had not been released.

By a dump, do you mean a flash dump? If so, it's kind of you to offer something to the community but 1. dumping flash is not possible on HAN and 2. a flash dump is unique to that console (and so not useful) and it contains sensitive information (PSID) which others could extract and use, leading to a likely ban of your console due to it being used online to abuse online gaming servers and the like, or even sold to others who will go on to abuse SEN.

So flash dumps have some value? If yes how much could be expected for unbanning a console? I have my 4.80 ofw flash.dump but I could easily get a few more if it was worth my time?

Flash dumps only have value to your own PS3 as they contain "Per Console" data. They can be used to unbrick your PS3 if you doing anything to them that you shouldn't.

As coldheart said it contains you IPDS and stuff for the console and would really only be used on a CFW model to spoof the console ID if it has been banned. For example I use the CID from my CECH4003A SuperSlim on my CECH2003A's so if I do get banned it will be the SuperSlim that gets banned not the slim.

I would not share my flash dumps with anyone.

This whole thread is obsolete, this was before any HAN came out, so that is what they were talking about. The ONLY reason it was better to stay on 4.81 back then was because they had no access to 4.82 DEX, Now we do have access to that so its completely obsolete. Basically just ignore this thread.

If you can get access to broken consoles and use hardware flasher to dump them then yes, they can be used to unban a console and it has small value, maybe €10 to €15 or something like that. But there is no point taking the IDPS from one working console to use on another working console, as it will just get both consoles banned. Each IDPS can only be used online by one console at a time, if you use it on two, Sony will see that and ban that IDPS.
