This is the second time in less than a month that my PS5 won't read/identify Blu-Ray discs, only DVD.
I replaced the KES-497 on January 7th, on January 17th I played normally and even heard the disc spin during a check when I was playing Gran Turismo 7, the disc drive didn't make any noise or behave differently. Then yesterday when I turned on the PS5 and inserted the disc I got the unfortunate news that the disc was no longer being recognized.
I have no doubt that the replaced KES-497 could also be at the end of its life, bought from AliExpress, but now I'm starting to worry that the disc drive controller board may be defective, in fact I don't even know where to start analyzing since:
1- days before the first KES-497 failed, I had put a 2T SSD in the PS5;
2- I always turned off the PS5 with a disc inserted, but days before the first KES-497 malfunctioned, I started removing the disc every time I turned it off. In this second KES, I had also removed the disc before turning off the PS5.
This is the same PS5 from the thread (https://www.psx-place.com/threads/a-question-about-the-ps5-heating-up.45715/) and the position of the PS5 has no relation because in the first KES-497 that malfunctioned it was in a vertical position, with the second KES-497 that malfunctioned it was in a horizontal position. On January 17th I updated the SSD with a larger and (I hope) better heatsink than the original SSD heatsink.
I have 1 more spare KES-497 and I don't know if I should put it in right away or wait for some advice regarding the disc drive controller board, or if I should put in the new KES and remove the SSD, I honestly don't know what to do, it was discouraging since I have in my collection PS1, PS2, PS3 slim and PS4 fat that were used by me and the lasers are still reading the discs.
I'll even remove the 30th Anniversary start-up with the PS3 theme, just in case the PS5 is imitating the PS3 in burning the KES-497 (Joke)
