PS3 psarc > 4gb and getting them to work on PS3 external drive.

So I've got about 11 or so games that have split psarc files, because they are greater than 4GB for fat32.
I'm trying to have all my games installed/updated and available at once on my ps3. This has been mostly successful, but I can't transfer them all to the internal, because I have like 3TB of games.

So I was wondering is there a generic way for decompressing the psarc files for these 11 games, and just not using the psarcs at all? Or is the way the psarcs are used for each game so unique, that you have to customize how you decompress the files that this method just isn't viable? Examples of games would be GOW, resistence, and uncharted. I've read you can convert them into packages, but I'm not sure that will work in every case, and not sure if it is really any easier.

Also, there was a thread on here about a year ago about using exFat on the PS3. Did anything come of that? Is there a tutorial for doing that? I've tried using NTFS, but it just never worked for me. (I think it was the USB controllers I had for my drives or something like that.) If this is the case, I'll just merge my split files and leave it at that.

Thanks guys.

So I just extracted the contents of game.psarc into the folder it was contained in for Resistence. I overwrote anything that existed.
The game seems to be working. (It also seems to be working/loading much faster that when it was in the psarc. I suppose that is because it is not encrypted or compressed.)
I'm going to try this method with some other games, and see if they also work. This seems like a rather simple solution, but if it works, it works.

Yes that old method works for others games too. Alternatively you can merge the psarc files and create a split ISO.

The ISO works with the psarc files extracted too. Only the large psarc files need to be extracted.

Do I need to do anything fancy to make those ISO, or can I just dump the contents of the original discs into an ISO file?

It would seem to me, that every ISO would have to be split, because most of my games are > than 4gb in total.

for ps3 discs i always use muliman and save to internal hdd. then i use multiman's file manager to copy the iso to fat32 usb. when it copies, it will split the iso into 4gb chunks. i copy the chunks to my exFAT usb for backup but play from fat32 or internal hdd. (if i rip iso straight to usb instead of hhd first, the files show up on ps3 but not on my pc.)

Well, for now, I'll extract the psarc files on the games that use that method, and then see how many I have left.
So far only GT5 and Lair are not using psarc.
Lair may be using the extension ".dat" instead of ".psarc", as they have a ".txt" file for the ".dat" file.
I'm going to use a psarc tool on the file and see what happens.

The uncharted's and the last of us works with that method too, you can extract the psarc contents and the game loads the files fine
This is a rarity though... if you find more .psarc files in other games most probably this method is not going to work
