If I want to use an external drive for Linux, can I use those options without restoring/resetting my PS3?
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place.

installing linux to internal hdd requires special pup install and formatting. installing to usb storage device does not require those things. i only recommend installing to usb actually because it is so much easier. you can use a live cd/dvd to install or just test, if you want to.Basically, on my PS3 on 4.90 (evilnat, CEX) I want to put OtherOS on a USB drive. In the CFW options, theres an OtherOS section that lists a few things (specifically resizing VFLASH/eFlash and installing petitboot.)

My question rn is if the options I'm talking are enough to enable that (from the PS3, anyways.)Basically, on my PS3 on 4.90 (evilnat, CEX) I want to put OtherOS on a USB drive. no restore. no internal hdd format.
you can use a live cd/dvd and install to usb from there. after installing, the burnt disc would not be needed anymore (unless you need to reinstall in the future).
update: i got everything to work and imaged Fedora 12 PPC to a DVD-R. It booted fine, going to install to an external HDD tomorrow.
