Im pretty sure i know the answer for this but im better off asking, updating a ps3 with hfw via usb will get it stuck on an update loop the same way it does by updating it via internet? had to find out the bad way the bt module was busted and i dont want to spend another 3 hours praying and pulling the hdd off the console to get it unstuck

It does not matter if from usb or internet . the update process is still from hdd. the update is copied to hdd, from usb or internet and the file is executed from hdd. if your bluetooth module is bad then you are out of luck until you replace it.

As Luisile said, it doesn't matter.
If your model is CFW compatible and currently on firmware 3.55 or below then you can install noBT CFW. If it's on 4.75 or above you can use bgtoolset then install noBT CFW. If it's between 3.56 and 4.74 or not CFW compatible then unfortunately you'll have to replace the BT board before you can install any firmware.
