PS3 Question Regarding webMAN Broswer

Hello friends, thanks for taking the time to read this. I'll be brief. I installed webMAN as a way to play some of my backups from my rare game collection. It works great and I was going through the options on the webMAN Setup folder and accidentally clicked PS3 webMAN [Games] which then brought up a list of my compatible games on the device that I can mount. This is cool and all but just to ensure, when it says web browser, this is not somehow transmitting my files to the internet like some sort of torrent-device right?

I back up all my games legitimately so I want to make sure I'm not somehow uploading all the PS1/PS2 files I've backed up to my system onto the internet somewhere for others to download illegally. I believe this is just the internal browser and I'm not even connected to the internet with my system but I just want to make sure. Was a bit paranoid. Thanks!

LOL you're not even connected to the Internet and you're worried about making your files public??

If you're not connected to Internet, you don't have to worry.

webMAN MOD includes a web server & ftp server that can be exposed to Internet.
If your PS3 is in a DMZ or your ports 80 and 21 are open in the router, then your PS3 can be accessed and that is extremely dangerous if you don't enable the security settings. Unauthorized user could access your content or delete your files.

The following security features are disabled by default to make it easy to configure:
- FTP server password. It is blank by default.
- IP address filter to limit WWW/FTP services to local & single IP address. The filer is open by default.
- USER mode prevents access to potentially risky web commands. ADMIN mode is the default.

It is highly recommended to enable these features if you have a LAN with an open wireless or your PS3 can be from Internet.

Yeah, I know it's a really weird question but I do appreciate you letting me know. So obviously, if I'm not even connected to the internet, there's no risk obviously. But if you are able to answer my question, that browser menu that I brought up called PS3 webMAN [Games] was just to load a game onto the system and not an actual internet browser where one transmits their games to another server or streams it via FTP or whatever, right?

webMAN uses the PS3 Internet Browser to display some content locally like Setup, PS3 webMAN [Games], PS3 webMAN [Files], etc. These pages can be accessed also from a remote PC, tablet or smartphone in your LAN.

The FTP and Web servers can transmit the games to others if they have access to your PS3 via TCP port 80 or 21. These ports must be open for outbound traffic in the router to gain access from Internet.

Be aware that even if you are not connected to the Internet, if a neighbor or a family member connects to your LAN via WiFi (e.g. if you have a weak password), they could access your PS3 and perform web commands to copy/delete your games or cause damage to your system if they want.

And all this is only operating when the FTP or Web servers are actively being used by the user? As in, if I'm just doing regular things on my PS3 and or opened up the server page but then closed it, nothing is being transmitted or attempting or waiting to transmit right?

My biggest concern was that my PS3 was actively trying to upload my games to a shareware server for others to download after I clicked on the internet selection like I was building or seeding a pirate torrent or something. That's a leap in logic but I'm still learning how all these works since I back up my games for my own use and not to upload or distribute illegally.

When you mount a game, the ISO or folder is redirected locally to dev_bdvd. GameOS interprets it like you're inserting a real disc and let you play it.

Nothing is sent to third party sites when a game is mounted. However, as the web & ftp servers are permanently running in background, the files could be pulled by external users if these ports can be accessed from outside.

Understood, thank you! And these web & FTP servers are turned off obviously when webMAN is uninstalled via the provided uninstall prompt? If I wanted to remove it completely, is there anything else I need to do besides select the uninstall option? Just to ensure these servers are not running?

Oh and one more question in addition to this: When webMAN is used, it does not modify or change any of the ports on your IP address/router such as the ones you mentioned (80 and 21) when the PS3 (assuming webMAN is installed) is being used? For example, if 21 is closed, it doesn't force it open and or vice versa, it just uses them for the web and FTP server if they are open and whatnot, correct? No modifications to it and no need for the user to go into their router settings and change anything back?

If webMAN is uninstalled, the web & ftp servers won't be running in background.

When you run multiMAN, IRISMAN, ManaGunZ or Rebug Toolbox an FTP server start running automatically.

CFW Evilnat 4.89.3 also has a new ftp server integrated that could be running if it is enabled.

webMAN doesn't force anything on the router. It only uses these ports if they are open.

I assume this also applies to the other mods you mentioned as well, like IRISMAN, and Evilnat CFW where they don't force anything on the router just by having the FTP server active? Just making sure I don't need to manually check all my router ports after using these in case they somehow forced a port open or left me open to a vulnerability when not using them.

Yes. They don't touch the router settings

Yes. They don't touch the router settings
Just one last thing I believe and I'll be done. Thank you for all your assistance and guidance, it truly means a lot! Does this also apply to multiMAN (appears as mmCM on my console) as well in that it also doesn't touch the router settings? I also use something for prepping my exFAT/NTFS Drivers called prepISO but I don't believe that touches anything with router settings and is all handled on the console.

All in all, from what I understand now, none of these popularly-used programs on the PS3 have any way to even modify or touch ones' router system settings, just use what is already enabled or disabled by the router settings already, is that right?

Ah yes, THE last thing! Is uninstalling IRISMAN as simple as pressing the triangle on the icon and selecting uninstall (around 32 MB) or do I need to go into the file system of the PS3 and uninstall something else as well? Just to ensure the FTP server is not running.

Hi, I had a question. If I use the "/copy.ps3/<path>&to=<destination>" command to copy a file to the dev_blind, does this automatically mount the dev_blind or do I have to do: "/dev_blind? 1;/copy.ps3/<path>&to=<destination>"?
