PS3 Question: Softmodding & PS2, PSX - Multi Disc games

Hello PSX Palace!

I was directed here by a nice redditor in the hopes that someone far more capable than I could help me. I got a PS3 at a yardsale $30 The Fat Boy, surprisingly good condition despite having leaves in it, anyway!

I want to play my PSX, PS2, and PS3 titles (some disks don't work due to it being the fat boy.)

What would be an idiot-proof, step-by-step guide for this?

I figured out the differences between Multiman and HEN, and it seems like HEN would work better for me as I only want to play my older games. But how does the multi-disk function work for the PS2 and PSX titles? (I have iso's of the PS2 titles and Bin/cue's of the PSX titles.)

I heard in some instances you should have them on a USB and plug and unplug the USB from the PS3? Another use Webman to change the disks (might not work on T-Mobile home internet, due to it being a CNAT network.)

Do I need to convert my bin/cue files into an ISO format for multidisk games? How does the file structure work in this setup? Do I have to name a folder PSX/(GameName)/(Disk 1)? Is it PSX/(GameName)/All the games named disc 1, disc 2, disc 3 respectfully?

Can someone direct me to a step-by-step guide to using HEN? Will I need a USB flash drive for HEN, an external USB HDD for my PS3 titles, and an internal HDD for the PS3?

Summarized.
1. What do I need to start?
2. What application packages will I need to play PSX, PS2, and PS3 games?
3. How do multi-disk games work for each platform? (Is there a simple setup like the Gamecube or PS Classic where it just automatically reads it when it's in the same folder?)

The whole process for softmodding a PS3 is confusing me as it's not as clear as the Wii homebrew scene and feels a bit more convoluted. (Guessing my PS3 should NOT be signed in when doing any of this?)

Thank you for your help, if you have the time to help me.

CFW stands for 'custom firmware'. I still haven't hacked the ps3 yet, but read a bit of the guide. I know for the PC and retroarch the old method is out-dated and now people use .m3u files to list multi-disk games. I heard Playstation software emulators on the ps3 are better than the ones for ps2 so that's probably more ideal. I softmodded my ps2 and I'm not even sure if there is such thing as multi-disk ps2 games.

I'm gonna need to explain the .m3u files bit to me, as this is the first I've heard about it in my endless Googling, how does it work? Do I put the .iso's in with a file called .m3u? Do I merge them into a pkg file with an .m3u? is .m3u a new file format that Multiman and everything can read?

There were several multidisk PS2 games, but the ones I'm referring to are Xenosaga Episode II, and III as I'm more of an RPG guy.

You just list the .cue files in order, and there's an option in Retroarch to swap the disk (on pc). I'm not 100% sure for .iso but it's probably similar

Okay a bit off topic, forgive me.

But PS1, PS2, and PS3 games, I just want to make sure here.
PS1 games can be internal or external?
PS2 games can only be internal?
PS3 games can be internal or external?

Do I have that right at least?
(Can you have PS2 games in the same folder like Xenosaga II, and Xenosaga III disc 1 and 2? Or do they need their own folders?)

ps2 must be internal. you can store them on external but they will be copied to internal when played. coping can take a long time.
