PS3HEN Radiata Stories Exp bug

Hi, new here, so please bear with me, read through forum rules, couldn't find another thread addressing the issue I'm having, hopefully I'm posting this in the correct area.

So, I've been struggling getting this game to work correctly for the last 3 or 4 days. Particularly because of an exp bug that I'm not seeing many other people have experienced. My characters don't gain exp after battles. I've ripped the ISO from disc onto my ps3 super slim through mmcm, encoded it and tried mounting the ISO with webman to play it.

I've checked the classics compatibility list, this game is listed as playable, with any real issues being fixed with config. I've got the most recent config files from the webman mod github page, and indeed, the game loads up fine, looks great, plays almost normally with combo skills and passive skills leveling correctly, but as I said, characters don't gain exp, and there's no mention of this bug on the compatibility site.

I'll fight a battle, the end battle screen will come up, it'll show a tick down of exp until 1 then reset to the starting "exp to next level" value for level 1 and continue ticking down until the gained exp is spent. Out of battle, exp returns to the value it was before the battle took place.

One person on Reddit had the same issue and recommended that I do a .pkg install, said that that fixed it for them. They linked me a video tutorial on how to prep the file using ps2 classics gui. So I tried that, followed their instructions, and it worked. My characters gained exp no problem. However, while playing the game like that I was having issues that were supposed to have been fixed with the right config file. Mainly a very jarring fps issue, stuttering and dropping frames particularly around areas with many characters on screen, or during cutscenes. Not an enormous issue necessarily, but annoying enough that I wanted to try to fix it.

it seems that the config files that come with ps2 classics gui are different, perhaps outdated compared to the current available ones. I'm seeing different file sizes for the custom config file for Radiata Stories on the aldo config files compilation site (which I believe is what is included in the webman mod pack) compared to the config file for Radiata that comes with the ps2 classics gui. So, I went back through the process of creating a new .pkg install using the custom config file I found on the aldo compilation site.

Got through installation on my ps3, booted the game up, frame issues gone, but exp bug is back. So I'm wondering if anyone here has experienced this and has any advice to give on what to do to get this working correctly, if it's even possible. I'd really rather not go through the pain of transferring yet another pkg file to my ps3 through ftp, without having some more certainty it'll be the last time I have to do it, or even knowing that whatever changes I would make will at least push me in the right direction. As I said the ps2 classics compatibility page makes no mention of this bug so I'm not even sure what's causing me to experience it in the first place.

Last ps2 I had destroyed one of my other ps2 games before I realized the system had an issue, and I do not have a computer powerful enough to run my ripped iso in an emulator, so this seemed to be the perfect solution, as I had a ps3 super slim that I barely used and figured I'd homebrew just so I can finally play this game I've been wanting to replay for several years. If I had a better solution I wouldn't have come here looking for help, as I'm pretty much a complete amateur when it comes to the specifics and code-side of homebrew, but I'm desperate here.

Mods/Admin, If I've broken any rules feel free to junk this post/ban/whatever is necessary, but please let me know where I messed up so I can hopefully get the help I need to get this game I love up and running. Thanks.

Config has been not inherited by WMM or you using different emulator for both cases (on CECHA-C models, it will be used the one which virtualise EE/GS, while so called PS2 Classics used always ps2_netemu).

What does that mean for me exactly? How would I check whether wmm has inherited config?
As for using different emulators, I've made two separate pkg files using classics gui. The only difference between them was the config file used. So they should have both used the same emulator, no?

I get if you're saying the iso/mount method uses a different emulator than the ps2 classics gui package installation method does, but I've essentially gotten the exp bug from both, and only had it go away when using the config file packaged with the ps2 classics gui upon download.

Sorry if I've missed something you explained, im honestly still trying to parse what you've said and im not making much sense of it for myself.

If there's an obvious solution im not seeing here, then this thread can be locked and done away with, because I guess im just lacking fundamental understanding to troubleshoot this and ill chalk it up to a lost cause.
