PS3 [RELEASE] PS2 NETemu to GXemu config converter with GUI (v0.6)

Hi all,

since we have possibility to load external configs for gxemu (thanks to mighty @kozarovv and his mods) it was a pain to convert existing custom NETemu configs to GXemu manually.

Process required not only simple commands conversion (both emus are using different ID's), but adjusting used data length and fixing endianess.

Our conversion hero @Zar has made it possible with automated way.

Now I've added GUI to Zar's app, which should make it as easy as possible for everyone from the scene to convert and test remaining (or upcoming) netemu custom configs on gxemu.

You can download new version (based on ps2_config v0.6) using the link below:

https://www.mediafire.com/file/r9bigk3vtpoetwg/ps2config_ui_v0.6.7z/file

It is worth to mention that not all netemu custom configs are required for gxemu to work properly with many PS2 games, but since both emulators are sharing EE and RAM emulation code, they have many things in common (including bugs).
Remember custom configs work only with GXemu modded by Kozarovv. The easiest way to verify if you have modded version is to press & hold SQUARE button while being in gxemu's menu - it should replace Controller's battery level string to temperatures indicator. If that is happenning - you are good to go.
I'm not sure which version of Evilnat's beta CFW contains Kozarovv's modded emus (starting from 4.91.2 or 4.91.3), but from what I know it should be included to his next 4.92.2 Beta CFW release. Unfortunatelly I can't check by myself, since my only CECHE catched YLOD and is still under reparation.

Place converted gx custom configs under /vm/gx.
It is essential to leave file name exactly as converted, which is e.g. SLUS_123.45 - no CONFIG extension (unlike netemu)!
When everything is done, just load ISO as usual and test results.

You can check all custom GX configs that have been tested and verified by us so far on my repo (replace [dot] with .):

https://www.github.com/kamilb880/gxemu_custom_configs

Currently there are 81 titles that have custom configs converted and it is confirmed that the fixes are working.
Overall we have over 550 titles verified (replace [dot] with .):

Hope we'll have gxemu table on psdevwiki completed some day, just as we have already netemu's one ;)

Share your test results in comments.
Enjoy!

Hi, the tool works great. I have a question. I noticed that when I play the German version of Dynasty Warriors 2, it works great even without a config file. However, I noticed that when loading it multiple times, for example, with Webman MOD, the graphics can suddenly become completely buggy. Could anyone test that? I have a another small example: I am currently playing the PAL version of Dark Cloud, and that works quite well. But this happened to me; after loading several times, the entire game started shaking. This wasn't happening before and isn't happening now.

I tried it, unfortunately, I couldn't find a config for Dynasty Warriors 2 and Dark Cloud in this region (German or PAL). But yes, it just happens by chance. I just tried Dynasty Warriors 3, and it has only happened once before that the whole picture shivered. After a restart, it was gone. Unfortunately, I was unable to convert the PAL config. In the end, as with netemu, the clothes spin, so she moves quite crazily. The only thing I noticed was that the memory text didn't look quite right at the very beginning.

I don't think I can upload a video file. I have now tested it again, and it failed four times, so badly that the GXEmu froze.

It just seems to happen by chance; I have it again now. It just seems to happen by chance. I've tried it five times now, and it hasn't happened.

@XDeltaOne, I've tried tu run Dynasty Warriors 2 (German) multiple times, but everytime it worked fine for me. No clue if this issue is bounded with your console unit - if anyone can confirm reproduction of this issue, please let us know.

I tried it again myself; it seems to work, and I have had no problems so far. I sometimes noticed jitters on the right when starting a fight, or at the bottom right if the chapter name.

have you ever thought of creating a launcher for totally backward compatible ps3s that would allow you to force NTSC on PAL titles in order to broaden their compatibility. I say this because via ps2_emu titles such as GTA Vice City PAL or Alone in The Dark PAL at a certain time remain on black screen preventing even closing the game by forcibly turning it off... I was able to get around this problem by using a version of OPL specifically for ps3 that allows me to use the GSM (just like it was a ps2) by forcing the title in 1080i at 60 Hz and restoring proper operation.
So my question is, would it be possible to create it directly as a homebrew instead of doing all that procedure by booting ISOs only from Ethernet instead of the ISOs that are in the ps3's internal hdd (dev_hdd0/PS2ISO)?

@Flared
Creation of this kind of homebrew is not possible, I'm afraid.
ps2_emu issue about certain PAL games black screen while using full screen option in emu is under investigation.
Kozarovv has made some progress, stay tuned ;) But this fix has no ETA so far.

awesome how you broke a dream of mine about such a situation in such a delicate way hahaha too bad it's not possible, but I'm glad to hear that someone is still working on it I can't wait to see the progress!

Hi all,

Initial post has been updated with new link.
Zar's ps2_config app has been updated to v0.6 (fixed NET to GX 0x0C command translation), so I've updated my GUI version as well.

Enjoy!
