PS3 Read Error PS2 disc on multiMAN/PS1 ripping ridiculously slow

Trying to rip my PS2 and PS1 collection onto the PS3, which I just jailbroken, with a new drive and everything, so its a full clean set up. I've tried several PS2 games, all giving the same read error and doing the 30 attempts before failing out. PS1 games do read, but the rate as reported from my PS3 is 0.01MB/s. I have already verified that both DVDs and CDs work, and have already successfully rip a PS3 game to the HDD. The PS3 is a CECH-2101A, the dump was good when checked with PyPS3.

Can a non BC console read a PS2 disc to be able to rip it? I don't remember ever trying on my slim but the wiki makes me think it can't.

It does, and I finally figured out what I was doing wrong, as I dug around elsewhere while waiting.

Put simply, while multiMAN can see the disc without a problem, when in mmCM mode, it can't properly rip it, at least for me, that was the case, and the person that I found out what to do from. So what you have to do is switch over the mmMAN mode, from the left most option in multiMAN, and then, you can rip the ps1 and ps2 isos. You also have to have ps2 classics placeholder installed so you can make them into ps2 classics. Should be easy after that making them bootable.

Just in case anyone else comes across this and needs to know what to do if they encounter the same thing I did.

i always just ripped ps2/ps1 on PC. ps2 as iso and ps1 as bin/cue. never had a problem.

It can. PS2 discs are standard DVD discs that can be read even on PC. Non-BC PS3 models are still capable of reading DVDs for compatibility with DVD movies.
I've noticed that people sometimes complain about ripping PS1/PS2 discs though. imho the best method to rip them is on a PC.
