PS3 REBUG 4.82 Trophies clock issue

Hi, everyone. Recently I noticed that time of acquiring a trophy differs from the real one and it keeps getting ahead. For example: I earn a trophy, say, at 6 p.m., but trophy sections shows it as 11:32 p.m. Also I noticed that when I unpack my PS3 after a long vacation in a closet, the console clock is always ahead with a rate of half-an-hour-per-year. That exactly matches the time in trophies section. Could it be that after I had CFW installed several years ago, PS3 kept following some internal hidden clock not giving a damn of what I set in Clock and Date menu every time I turn it on? Is it even possible, has anyone seen this before?

There are two clocks on PS3 - one is the one you setup in Settings - another one is RTC that's synced when you connect to PSN. RTC is used for trophy timestamps.

You'll have to sign in to PSN to sync the second one - RTC.

Thanks, so there are two of them. I thought something like this might be the case, I've never logged in to PSN with CFW. Isn't it like "not recommended" to sign in with CFW?

It's not recommended, but there is no other option to get this clock synced. Unless someone has implemented this idea from this post - however that idea is a workaround, not really a proper fix.

You can always just install OFW and log in to PSN there. You can reinstall CFW after the clock is synced.

Might be good idea to replace the CMOS on PS3 motherboard before you do all that.

So there's no easy way to synch the damn clock... Damn, installing OFW is sure a bad idea considering my luck, something surely will go wrong and I'm just afraid to screw the whole thing, not be able to go back to CFW or something...

You can login to PSN while on CFW. On Evilnat 4.91 there is an option to disable syscalls in order to reduce the ban risk.

But don't worry, it's riskier to go back and forth between CFW and OFW because, if the installation fails for whatever reason, you may end up with a shinny brick. If you happen to get banned just for login in (highly unlikely), your console will still work.

AFAIK you don't have to sign in to PSN to sync the second clock - going to date and time settings and selecting the option to set the time through the Internet should also do the trick.

I can't be sure, but the rtc is likely used for some game logic as well, to prevent cheating in some cases. I've been playing tales of xillia 2, and there's a subgame, where you can send kitties you've found, to get treasures and items from places you've been. It's always random, so it's somewhat frustrating trying to get the right items for sidequests. Anyway, it's based on time, rtc I think, but I haven't tried messing with the time. You can save your game, after having dispatched a kitty, turn off the console, then return later to have your kitty return without actually having played the game. I know rtc controls the seasons in animal crossing as well, and I think bravely default 2 on the switch has a similar subgame to the kitty one, where you could dispatch a ship to find stuff, save, turn the game off, then load the save later to get your treasure.

Indeed, it's also used for trophies so you can't fake trophy unlock times. It's also known that Sony uses trophy timestamps (among other methods) to detect trophy hacking and ban users. That's why we warn people to never use CFW to unlock trophies and then sync them to PSN.

Not sure why anyone would want to waste their time cheating with trophies. I don't know about the ps3, but I know you can delete games with 0 trophies from your list on the ps5, if they're bothersome. I guess I can understand if the trophy is impossible to get now, maybe, if you're a platinum person. My game list is so large that I just get what I can for now, but I do play the switch less than I would if it had trophies. I think back in 2018, Sony would give out prizes for trophies including funds added to your wallet. I wish they'd do that again, but those year-end roundups or your gamer stats are pretty cool. Not sure if you have to be a psn plus subscriber though.

I mean, really? I know I'm a n00b, just like that badge on the left says, but is it enough, can anyone confirm this?

My PS3 has the wrong DNS set, so it won't ever go online, but all I had to do was to let the console out of jail and let it synch the clock via internet? Without bothering creating an acc for PSN login or updating FW? In case of simple online clock check I think there's no real chance to get banned, correct me if I'm wrong (not if I care too much, because I have another totally legit OFW PS3, just don't like the idea of getting banned anywhere). I have no intention of synching trophies or gaming online with CFW, the only thing I need is the right time stamp when a trophy is acquired.

And if I don't want to upgrade from 4.82, is there a way to login to PSN with such ancient FW?
You can spoof the reported version but the higher the version difference the higher the risk that something was changed in the login protocol, which, in the best case scenario, would result in errors, and in a bad case might result in a ban. The possibility of such a change from 4.82 to 4.91 can't be discarded.
Bottom line is if you want to play on PSN you need to upgrade. If you run into issues you can QA flag and downgrade back.

You can't get banned unless you actively log in to PSN, so you really don't need to mess with the DNS settings, just make sure automatic updates are turned off. Syncing the time, as well as downloading game updates is completely safe.

Yeah, thanks! Checked yesterday if Automatic Update option was off and then synched with Update via Internet. Worked like a charm. Now both clock show the actual time. Guess, too many precautions is not a good thing after all lol
