PS3 RetroArch 1.6.3 - Improved PS3 Release from libretro

The libretro team has released a new update the PS3 port of RetroArch, supplying a DEX version for Custom Firmware users, ps3 dev & libretro Contributor @Ezio follows up that release with a CEX version and also a ODE version for user's who may be using one of the Opical Disc Emulators (ODE). This update comes equipped with the missing cores from v1.6.0 and this might be the first release for the PS3 to contain the o2em core, which is a simple Odyssey 2 & Videopac+ emulator for those wondering. but Ezio_PS does confirm the Atari ProSystem emulator is now fully working once again and for those who have been awaiting a fix to Neo Geo Pocket there is very good news about that core on the horizon View all the details and downloads available for Custom Firmware (CEX & DEX) and Optical Disc Emulator (aka ODE) versions of the popular multi-system emulator that now contains 27 libretro cores. (note: neo-geo pocket has incoming fix as Ezio explians).

This version is better than 1.6.0 since prosystem core works again fully.
Recently (about 2 days ago) ngp core has been fixed and it is again working on ps3 after several years. Latest time i saw it working was on RA 1.0.0.3 if i remember good. Anyway i'll build a little pkg including the fixed core in the next days, so ps3 users can enjoy again with it.

Black blocks are coming from the fact the pkg is missing of the assets folder (and shader_cg is missing too).
The super nintendo 'load state' bug hasn't been yet fixed.

@Ezio: is there a chance to add new cores to the PS3 Retroarch in the future? I mean Dreamcast, N64, Sega Saturn, PSP, NDS, Gamecube, ScummVM cores.

from what I remember, the saturn has like 9 processors, so it's incredibly difficult to program even on the pc.

Now all I need is a NES colored PS3 Slim housing like the one one the page and life will be *perfect! :D

The little surprise has been revealed: nightlies for ps3 will be available at the same way like for the other platforms.
Meanwhile RetroArch 1.6.4 is offically available here https://buildbot.libretro.com/stable/1.6.4/playstation/
I worked with the libretro guys to do it possible. :)
Please test and report feedback, i'm not so convinced about the size of the cex and ode version, on my end it should be about 200 mb.
Unfortunately. 1.6.4 is a regression. The same problem with Prosystem from 1.6.0 is back. Most roms don't run, and system locks up.

Maybe there's the chance to see some new cores to work, but i didin't check them. Anyway none of the cores you mentioned, unfortunately.

I didn't test 1.6.4, but prosystem worked fine in 1.6.3, right?

Yes, Prosystem works fine in 1.6.3. I will be submitting some new database entries for it as there are new hacks/homebrews that require db entries since the last working version 1.3.6.

@Ezio, there are some cores in other retroarch versions for the generation of 8-bit machines ? (ZX spectrum, commodore, amstrad)

Personally i would like to see a ZX spectrum core... i know other people prefers the commodore... but i think we can deal with amstrad because most of the spectrum and commodore games was published for amstrad (not all though)

There is some chance to see some of this cores working in next versions of retroarch for PS3 ?

---------------------------------
Also... what about the PS4 core dude ?... i want to run PS4 games in PS3, is that posibru ?
Bravissimo lavoro anyway :P

the maker of optical drive cfw for the 360 is quite fond of commodore as well. c4eva I mean. the c stands for commodore in his handle.

Also - Ezio - I just added a bunch of commits to the database.c file on the Prosystem libretro GitHub, but I don't have write access, so I put in a pull request. They need to be added for game compatibility. If you can get it working again in a nightly, these database entries need to be updated, Thanks!

Hello All,
I hope I am posting in the right forum. I recently bought a mayflash snes adapter for my ps3 to play retro arch version 0.9.9 roms with my snes controllers. I realize the buttons need configuration, but after numerous youtube videos and hours of looking for a solution on the web I have been unable to figure out how to configure the control buttons on my version of retro arch to make them compatible for my snes controllers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

'Bravissimo lavoro' cannot be read, it should be 'Ottimo lavoro' (Good work). :P

Anyway i'll take a look at the cores where developer r-type worked, since he has fixed stuff for WiiU which is a big endian machine such as ps3. ;)

The pull request has been accepted, let me see if i get some free time this weekend. :)

RetroArch PlayStation3 version is getting nightlies!

Long overdue, but we are finally getting ready to start providing nightly support for RetroArch on PS3. This way, PS3 users can download the latest nightly version at all times and enjoy the latest improvements! This is not yet ready since we are going through some last-minute buildbot issues, but we expect this to be sorted out within the next few days.
Beetle Neo Geo Pocket Color (if the big endian patches are any indication) should have its controls fixed now!
We are also going to provide CEX/DEX builds from this point on instead of just the usual DEX builds like before.

great job :)

@Ezio
btw, Don't you think this page need to be updated ? https://buildbot.libretro.com/docs/compilation/ps3/

Very nice to see nightlies on ps3:loyal:

MAME 2003 still missing? tested a few games on MAME 2000 And it locked the console
