Im not drunk enought to comment on that dude, but i would like to mention to dont take my posts as the target of your attacks because it looks like you are attacking me

Just incase someone wonders... im not hyped by the PS5 and im not a convinced buyer of it, is just im interested in it, in the same way im interested in other many things that i will never buy
But i dont lose my ass to buy everything i like, is not a matter of money, is because im far away of being a consumist whore :)

I ain't no communist mate and but that's plain shit. Easy does it?
Whores?
Maybe you should get one.
PS5-Dump

Don't bother arguing mate , I'm too old for that shit.

You're the only one that is trying to argue.
before you come slashing mate all death and shit , you're the one that seems to be the communist !

you didn't even spend time to read , you lazy focker

follow the topic and then we'll talk , yes!
piss off

bye bye!

What they are even trying to patent? Airflow? :D
I should patent my 2x12cm fans that i applied to Accelero S1 in my old PC :D

But is nice to see what's inside that devkit.

Yeah, i guess the patent is about the cooling system, there is nothing about electronics in it as far i understand
The only things related with electronics that called my attention are:
-The APU seems to be huge (but maybe is just a conceptual representation of it)
-That black things at the right could be the internal SSD (this is going to generate a lot of heat btw)

And about the cooling design... it looks 50% of the air moved by the cooling sytem is going to be dedicated to the PSU... and thats too much IMO
I mean... the PS5 was supposed to be a low power device so the PSU should not generate much heat, even in the firsts PS5 models
But what is going to happen is sony is going to reduce the power requirements of the new "revisions" of the motherboard so the PSU will be replaced by new models with lower power that will generate less heat, etc...
And at some point that design is going to be obsolete because the PSU is not going to need 50% of the air... i mean... is going to be excesive (uneeded)
But well... i guess they have some plan in long term to redesign that side... and yeah we are far away from that date... is the road to PS5 slim :D

*take a look at the link, there are a lot more images, i just screencaptured the most interesting one
Are they really gonna use 60mm Fans? This consoles will be one noisy b@stard [emoji23]

Not a fan of 60mm fans, once the machine needs to ramp up the RPM, that thing will sound like a XBOX360, or worst yet, like a HP Proliant Server, they've should have gone for a bigger diameter fan, but that's just my take, $ony might convince me that thoes fans won't sound like some mosquitos at night [emoji23]

Not really sure about that low powe,r Xbox Series X PSU is 220v | 2.2A so ~500W. PS5 is similar hardware so something around 500w PEAK power can be reached. That kind of PSU gonna need some good cooling, specially that gaming consoles don't have that power reserves like PC. PSU usually run on higher usage levels than PC power supply where people get 500W PSU to i3 and GTX1050 that barely reaches 150W in peak.

What i like is that finally PSU get fresh air, this is new in Playstation. I hope it will stay like that in retail PS5. Also, going back for a moment to 3 fans for PSU, this is devkit, so retail setup can be really different. Remember DECR-1000. ;)

APU seems to be massive, but like you said this can be just how is draw here. Also heat spreader seems to be big imo. Is long as almost whole devkit, and wide almost the same as "half" of case.
I think this gonna be hot generation for gaming consoles. This, and xbox fridge design seems to confirm it.

Hmmmm, good point, maybe the PSU and heatsink are oversized for this model because they was trying to be preventive, this allows them to replace the motherboard and electrical components by different prototype revisions of them
Now that im looking again at the PSU the electrical components in it are huge... and yeah the heatsink with so many "fins" looks like half a kilo of metal, lol

In the tech presentation cerny dedicated some time to talk about temperature and cooling, honestly i could not understand everything he said about it, but i think this is a good signal
I mean... if im presenting a product that overheats the last thing i want to talk about are things like "cooling performance" or "thermal efficiency"... in that case the best selling strategy would be to dont mention it at all... but cerny was talking about it so... not sure

I still have doubts if that patents are a PS5 though

Now when you said that, i recall Cerny, or someone else from sony mentioned that they trying some new approach to power management.

This is what i found at:
https://www.deccanherald.com/busine...-and-up-to-103-teraflops-of-power-815230.html
The PS5 also features interesting power management technology, brought about by use of a constant power, variable frequency design that the PS5 team opted for, rather than varying the power consumption based on load and keeping the clocks constant. The console uses AMD's SmartShift technology, originally unveiled at CES 2020. Cerny says the console features specialised power management elements in the main chip, which allows developers to maintain a fine-grain control of where they want to put more power into.

So PSU can have little bit more important role than usual if this is not marketing bullshit (which i think it is, but that's different story). This idea assume stable PSU. Because keeping constant power is much easier when you can keep constant temperature, cooling can be important for it.

Btw. Here is some info about one of used technologies: https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/smartshift

That was a bit confusing, i dont understand how is posible to keep a constant power consumption (while having aceptable fan noise levels), but i guess this means the fan speed is going to be constant too
Is a bit related with this too https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/sense-mi

In pain words, the AMD APUS have hundreds of thermal sensors and voltage sensors "spreaded" all around every tiny subcurcuit inside the APU, is something that was introduced with ZEN and they are still fine tunning it every new series (and for sony probably is custom)
The original goal of this was to have a very accurate control of which subcircuits becomes idle or stressed/overheated and react to it in a matter of miliseconds, this reduces power and also allows to do some kind of "automatic overclocking" very safelly
