PS3HEN Should i upgrade my firmware?

I recently got my first ps3. Its a ps3 slim cech3004b.

Im really good with computers and Androids but new to consoles. Im using firmware version 8.86. First thing i did was read tutorials here. I then got a hfw for 4.86, Downloaded hen. Then multiman etc.

But watching some News here it says like "PS3HEN UPDATED FOR 4.89"

So in general. Is it better/more stable to always get The newer firmware or should i stay on 4.86 forever and just update hen/multiman?

Can you guys explain why i should (or should not) upgrade?

If you don't use PSN or play recent Bluray movies on your PS3, there is not reason to update to the latest version.

There haven't been major changes since 4.75 except for the device setup password introduced in 4.89.
The main reason to update is that PSN requires the latest FW version and to update the AACS keys needed by newest bluray discs.

If you stay on 4.86, you have the option to upgrade to 4.87, 4.88, 4.89 or 4.90. If you upgrade to 4.90 you cannot downgrade on your PS3 model.
Ultimate Toolbox includes great mods that work great on 4.86, 4.87 or 4.88. On 4.89 or 4.90 they are broken.

Isn't we supposed to use psn to activate the console so we can use the .rap files to activate games in order to play them im currently updating my ps3 from 4.88 to 4.90 just because of psn activation and if there is anouther method please do tell. Thank you.

I don't know if hen can use a fake signed act.dat, but you'll need your real one to dump the licenses of your games.

You must first extract your RAP files from your RIF + act.dat (which must be from a legal purchase).

Otherwise, your RAP will be invalid and unusable. That's why everything must be legal.

If you've extracted your RAP files correctly, now you can use them with any act.dat file in order to activate your content, including the fake act.dat.
