PS3 Slim CECH-2004A acting weird during startup

Hey guys. I just received PS3 from a friend, that won't boot.

When I connect the PS3 and turn it on, it always takes exactly 42 seconds, then it gets yellow for half a second, turning flashing red with three beeps.

I tried it with connected and disconnected HDD, HDMI even Blu-ray drive. It is always the same time and error. Fan is working and turning during turning it on.

I tried to take it apart, clean everything, and put in a new thermal paste. Also, I tried to hold the button when starting the console. It is unable to enter safe mode or reset the video settings. No beep will ever occur while holding the button down.

Sadly I have no option to read Syscon logs right now.

Any ideas? Would it be worth to try blindly replace NEC TOKIN capacitors? Any other ideas on what to try first?

Hey hey, a quick update from my side. I was actually able to get to those error logs from Syscon. Here are the errlogs:

Code:
> errlog
00000000
# CODE CLOCK
# A0003001 FFFFFFFF
# A0003001 FFFFFFFF
# A0801200 1B22F329
# A0801200 12B254F0
# A0802022 12011A08
# A0802022 12011A07
# A0802022 12011A07
# FFFFFFFF FFFFFFFF

Do I understand correctly that there are these two errors simultaneously?
- "1200" - CPU Overheat. This is a common error.
- "2022" - DVE Error (IC2406, CXM4024R MultiAV controller for analog out).

Any ideas on what should be my next steps? I do not understand the CPU overheating issue. I tried applying a new thermal paste, and the fan was spinning just OK.

One more additional info. After clearing the errlog with "errlog clear" and "errlog start" it is now empty, and it stays empty even after starting the console and waiting for it to shut down... This is weird I guess. I am not able to get the errors back again. Also, I noticed that when the console shutdowns with a triple beep, I can see this in the terminal:

Code:
#![ERROR]: 0xb0002002 (FATAL) XDR Link not initilized.
# [SSM] Cond/Fatal received, msg=2649.
# [SSM] Fataldown Start.
# [SSM] Fataldown ok.
# (PowerOff State) (Fatal)

Sadly I found nothing about this over the internet, and there is no other error or warning visible.

OK, going through this forum and reading for about 3 hours, I found out that it looks like the error for this board is:
[ERROR]: 0xb0002002 (FATAL) XDR Link not initilized.

Someone said that this could mean that one of the XDR RAM chips are gone, or just paths from CPU to RAM is broken. I checked the board and found no damage, so I guess I am out of luck there? Any other ideas or tips please?
@ElGris Were you by any chance able to fix this error please?

As another year has passed, I would love to revive this thread, as there could be new knowledge. I still have this PS3 lying ower here, and I would love to fix it.

Random idea, try booting while applying extra pressure to your rsx chip. (top cover off lean on the back of fan shroud)
Also have hdmi and av cables connected so the ps3 can pick where to display.
No hdd connected
Had 2 consoles with this error, reflowing the rsx chips fixed them.

Thanks for the tip. I actually already tried this. I did all the tests without HDD. Tried it with and without HDMI, I also tried to apply pressure, as I also thought that It might need reflowing.

Dang definitely something more complex then. A cpu issue will normally have the ps3 shutting down within 5 seconds of boot. For it to stay on much longer seems to me thats its having issues displaying a picture. A reflow of the rsx and the cpu wouldn't hurt to try if you've exhausted all other ideas.

If you have read anything about it possibly being one of the XDR RAM modules then try pressing on these if pressing on the RSX does not help. Then you don't need to put any unnecessary thermal load on the RSX and the CELL during reflow, especially as it won't help if it's the RAM.
