PS3 sMAN v1.10n (by deank): New features & improved performance & stability

A couple of new updates aiding in the evolution of the sMAN plugin has been seen in recent days as developer @deank continues to add functionality and as you see in the screenshot additional eye-candy as well. Following up on v0.08n, deank officially labled v1.09 as a Beta Release as several new things were implemented and went through some testing phases. Deank has stated he has almost re-written sMAN so much that it now almost differs from webMAN v1.47n by nearly 50% according to the guy who know (the developer of both plugin) deank. Also thanks to freddy38510 NTFS drives will show the actual time & date stamps in both FTP & the file explore in web-browsers. v0.10n was recently released as well and officially moved from Beta to the next Stable update , that did just that improve the stability & performance of things like the www client . This plugin keeps improving and new features continue to impress as deank's continues to put his magically touches on this ps3 plugin.

  • sMAN v0.10n
In the latest sman.sprx update the internal web server will use threads to serve files/images content. It will no longer hold the whole www client thread and will release the resources immediatelly greatly improving performance and stability. Until now if you download something big via the web interface and then try to browse games or refresh sman would lock, but not anymore..

There were some issues with displaying images/files from network locations (ps3netsrv) using the webbrowser but it is now ok. There are also some other minor fixes.

    Update to sMAN 1.10n: http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx | http://deanbg.com/sMAN_1.10.zip

Network/ps3netsrv locations should now support about 3200 files (1600 ISO games + 1600 images for example).

p.s. sprx is updated again. If someone with a lot of network games can test it - let me know. I tested it with a folder with 9000 files and it handles 3200 to 3300, so it works. :)

  • I updated sman.sprx - it now has a separate option for dev_blind. sman_res.exe is changed to support .htm resource files. The source is also updated. Web content is now in external .htm files in wmtmp/res folder. It is still work in progress, but at least you can see how it is progressing.

The web-pages are still ugly, but now someone can help with improving them. The external files are:
    • www_head.htm - this is present in each generated page and can be edited by a web-designer
    • www_setup.htm - the setup page (only the form)
    • www_foot.htm - the footer
    • www_file.htm - some javascript needed for table sorting (doesn't work on the ps3 browser)

The dynamic content is generated after www_head and before www_foot.

I made some changes to the layout... should be something like this at the moment:

It should look much better now. You have a very early build. It now doesn't use tables, but I rewrote everything with css. Not really gorgeous, but still simple and lite. Shows 99% the same on the PC and on the PS3 now. Also it fits perfectly even in SD resolution (720x576). :)

Without Javascript the Setup page cannot be used (because js is used to set current options/values), but all other functions are ok.

This option was never clickable. The checkbox was always disabled and its "ticked" state just indicates whether the lowest speed will be applied (which happens only in "auto" mode). I added back the "tick" when in auto-mode - it is purely cosmetic checkbox just to make the options look more ordered on screen. :)

I updated sman.sprx. Also game listing in the web-browser on the PS3 now looks properly (game names are centered as they should be - same as on the PC).

http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx (now up to 1.09n - resource files will be updated and you'll also get a new background for sMAN GUI).
    sMAN updated (http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx)

I hope this 1.09n version is the last "beta"/"unstable" before the official 1.10. It seems very stable at the moment. I optimized a lot of functions and rewrote a lot of the code - probably over 50% is now completely different compared to webMAN 1.47n.

In this update the optimizations lead to another memory usage decrease - you should now have 2324KB free memory.

FTP browsing is faster - both for hdd/usb and ntfs drives, which means copying a lot of folders will be much faster compared to any wM/sM version.

Along with all the other changes since 1.08 (external web content/additional xmb info tags/code optimizations) 1.09n should be the version to update to without worries.

Thanks to @freddy38510 the ntfs library now supports proper date/time stamps for files/folders. sMAN is updated to show actual date/times in FTP and web-browser for NTFS drives.

@deank - Well I noticed something rather interesting this morning.

I switched over to habibs firmware last night and everything seemed to be working well, oddly enough. So I copied my PS2 games back onto the internal drive over night and this morning it's gone weird again.

So I did a restore file system, rebuild database blah blah blah to clean things up..

However, That's not the interesting part. I found if I launch sman setup from the xml integration option the games page loads fine. If I load the ps3 browser directly (sman setup is currently my home page) and hit the games tab it's broken almost every time. (this is the way I normally open it)

TLDR
sman > setup > games tab = :)
internet browser, games tab = :(

Weird, but seems to be repeatable on my console at least.

I think the PS2 games pushed it past its limits as the browser generally only loads half the page with broken images scattered everywhere now.

It scans the param.sfo and gets the name and icon from ps3netsrv games already. About the BD remote... I can make the blue button open sMAN GUI.

I want a cover image & not the icon as the icons are not obvious enough. If I move a PS3 ISO & JPG into BDISO then it downloads the cover and displays it, but with the same files in PS3ISO then it ignores the JPG. I've got the file names the same, just the extension is different. Although I tried using just the game id. I've also tried using upper and lower case for the extension, I'm back to lower case now. I've been deleting everything from tmp/wmtmp (except sman.cfg and res) each time I try something & I don't have multiman installed. Is it possible to make it only use the icon if there is no JPG?

Did you come up against a problem adding bluray remote support?

How do I setup multi-disc ps1 games? Should I save then with disk1, disk2 etc? Then How do I swap?

Edit: I found the info that disks can be swapped by a browser. Is there another way using just the ps3?

Best way is with an external browser to be honest. Most games need to be un-mounted first when it asks you to change discs so it thinks the tray has been opened, then mount the new disc, then press whatever button the game tells you to once you've "swapped discs".

Trying to shortcut it and mounting the next disc immediately without un-mounting the current one doesn't work from what I've tried.

There are shortcuts to change between next game/last game, (although I'm not sure if they work in PSX mode, pretty sure they don't but I can't test at the moment) so you could say mount disc 2, then mount disc 1, start the game with disc 1 and use a shortcut to skip back to disc 2 (previous game) when it asks, but there is no shortcut to unmount. So I'm not really sure if it is achievable purely on the ps3 in its current form.

Edit: I actually used the browser on the original Wii to change discs when testing a while back... Clunky and slow to load, but I don't have a smart phone or anything easily accessible with a browser, so it was my only real option. lol

@deank I'm not a cover guy I just let sMAN use original game icon. Yesterday at home testing sMAN I noticed that when I enable XMB Integration these icons lose their proportions when displayed in PS3 titles column ( they take dimensions of covers (I guess).

There is no control over icon dimensions in XMB. The ps3 squashes the icons to square 128x128 pixels no matter what the image resolution is.

Well, I just reported this because PSN game's icon are not affected with this. I don't know if it's my old CRT television but I don't think they're resized to 128x128, they get taller than wider.

Anyways, thanks for the quick response and sharing your knowledge.

Did you try this i wrote ? http://www.psx-place.com/threads/up...rovided-by-aldostools.12253/page-5#post-69511

I could not try myself, otherway i should report it as "working" but there is a good reason why i wrote that, is because is used in pre-retail official PS3 firmwares (before 1.00 firmware)
I been looking at lot of retail firmwares and i have never seen it used it again, but my bet is it should work
Sony doesnt uses to remove code to dont take risks in breaking things (except with linux, but even with linux most of it is still there) :)

I suggested it in a webmanmod thread because fitted well in the talk, but is a common "problem" from all webman's derivates

Thst is cool, would have saved me a lot of hassle adding transparent borders to icons in the first versions of XMBPD. It could still be handy as the app icons are squashed up.

@Berion might be interested in that too.

I noticed that, even in the settings category rco, all the pages and planes and items for the otherOS stuff is still in there in 4.81. :)

And even can be seen all the linux XMB messages related with things like formatting hdd...
"reserve 10gb for linux and dedicate the rest of the hdd for ps3", "all hdd for ps3", "all hdd for linux" XD
What they did was to "cap" it at a lower level... but for sure they has a way to enable it in a simple way at factory firmware install

Btw, a short explain of the wall of text i wrote in the other message... to test what i suggested in the other messge there is no need to modify sman code... just pick the .xml generated by it, locate the "tag" for a game that uses cover and add this to it in the list of the "pair keys" (the position matters, initially add it at bottom, if doesnt works move it up)
Code:
<Pair key="icon_fixed_width"><String>100</String></Pair>
Try with 100 first because if it works is going to be very notable
Next try with bigger values... the winner is going to be around 150 i think

To know the exact width (to preserve the aspect ratio very accuratelly) is needed to make the calculations i explained in the other message
Every cover format needs to be calculated... for some (like PS2 and PS3) probably doesnt matters much, but PS1 are close to squared, and PSP are very thin

Some games don't seem to be working with sman. Demon Souls, european version in cobra iso format, just freezes while its trying to load but works fine with a game manager and webman mod. All my PS2 iso games just sit on a black screen with sman but again work fine with a game manager or webman mod. Im using the latest rebug firmware.

hey deank i saw another user post a source code for a ps3 coverflow is that something that could be added to sman? thanks and keep up the amazing work

Hi, i just started to use sman some weeks ago and i'm very happy happy with it.
Also i started to use dynamic fan control (why the default temperature is so high?), but i have a problem playing ps2 classic games i think the speed i set on the confing doesn't apply and the ps3 just uses it's own values for the fan wich, in my opinion, are not enough to keep the ps3 "safe".
Is this a known problem or am i doing something wrong?
I have a value of 37% configuration section of ps2 mode but maybe it doesn't work because its like a psn game (persona 3 FES). i tried setting 40% and is still the same, the fan doesn't change the speed when starting the ps2 game but if i play for some time (and the ps3 gets hot) when i leave the game to the xmb the dynamic fan control takes the control of the fan and speed up the fan a lot to lower the temperatures.

Anyone can load a ISO with sman v1.11n without focus and "load" on XMB? I enable the option on sMAN, but it doesn't follow me. I have Iso's with PS3_EXTRA and i can't install because sMAN load the game automatically.

Thanks.

@deank

FYI
I finally took the time to investigate my ntfs hdd that would not work with sMan or any app using the cell sdk port of libntfs_ext. A fair number of users have had to cope with that glitch as well.
I had a gut feeling that it was cluster size related & I was right.
The partition is 2Tb & it was using a small cluster size. I used a partition manager which took a few hours to resize all the clusters, one notch bigger.
Plugged in the disk again, rebooted & voila, my ntfs partition is scanned perfectly. Games get mounted & all is well.. Except for one thing, for some reason the sman file browser will not list the contents of the PS3ISO folder... Neither will the ftp, the folder appears empty. My hands are really full atm so I have not yet looked at a possible ftp log or attempted to debug anything, sorry. I could make time if you ever wanted me to, just let me know...
Apps using the Psl1ght version of libntfs_ext can list the contents without problems.
All those apps could already deal with the partition when it was using smaller clusters, it was never a problem.

I assume that all this comes from the ported library configuration, I remember you made certain adjustments for prx usage, it may come from those.. I would need to test with slightly increased values I suppose...
Either that or we may have a type problem for one or more variables in the cell sdk port... Like a typedef resulting in a 64 bit type in psl1ght but only 32 bit with ps3 sdk?? Or something else leading to a similar outcome??
