PS3 Spyro Year of The Dragon | PS3 HEN

Libcrypt wasn't the only anti-piracy measure implemented on Spyro 3.

Check this out:
That's a crack protection. If you burn a copy using CloneCD and don't touch the executable it works perfectly fine. That's how I play it (I do own the game but I don't want to play from the original CD so I don't wear it down.

Libcrypt games wont run on a ps3 even if you use clonecd with subchannel data, mostly this is because the ps3 ignores subchannel data, It would work on a chipped/modded ps1 (and possibly ps2 ?) but not on ps3 by default, kinda sad really, i have the retail discs of ff8 but not able to play them on my ps3 because of that, i ended up buying it digitally so i could though (way before i modded my ps3 and before we could make ps1 classics), Kinda sad really that it doesnt have support for something that effected a lot of EU games.

Definitely not true. I've played several EU libcrypt protected games on my PS3, including Spyro 3 and FFIX, from both original and backup discs, and they all worked fine.

strange, maybe its just certain ones dont boot or maybe its the slim ps3's ? FFVIII just wont get past the libcrypt check for me, crashes everytime (original UK PAL discs and YES i have checked different discs to make sure its not just a damaged disc) at the start, maybe it only effects certain games or just FF8 or only on some PS3's ? i guess its possible some ps3 drives read sub data and some dont ? not sure i dont know enough about how ps3's read cd games. Only tested on ps3 slims (tested on a 2100B and a 3000B, on 3.55 OFW, 4.20 CFW, 4.80 CFW and 4.84 CFW (and 4.82 OFW on the 3k)) and it just wouldnt read the disc, i think i made a thread on this before but not sure if it was here, i will have to look for it in a bit, anyway good to know some libcrypt games do work on ps3.

The PS3 laser is pretty crap tbh it errors out on the slightest scratch when trying to backup games from disc to usb or hdd, I just end up using IMGburn instead, maybe there's some pot adjustment or tweak tool/app you can do on the ps3 like the ps2 to make them more readable.

Partially true. It does ignore/recalculate the CRC-16 checksum of the Q subchannel data indeed. If the Libcrypt game has only the Q subchannel checksum modified (majority of games have got both checksum and MSF data altered), it will not work on the PS3 without patching.

You have list with said protections & developers?

So far you've mentioned Studio33/Psygnosis
& Insomniac Games, i'm guessing the European developers went with heavier tactics after lack of sales on the Saturn & Dreamcast so maybe EA Games & Capcom/Virgin Interactive too.

Squaresoft too, with FFIX at least.

So does PAL Spyro 3 work on PS3? I know that it boots and goes into gameplay but maybe I haven't played it long enough...

Yes, I'm playing it. A guy wrote to me privately, sending me his patched copy (I don't know what kind of patch he applied). The game kept freezing at the same level I mentioned. So, he told me to delete a file, and after I deleted it, the game now works perfectly.
