PS3 SSD mounting problem

Hello All,
First post so bear with me.
I have a jailbroken ps3 fat cechp03.
I have saved one game save data to usb and backed up to pc.
I have saved full backup in xmb, multiman wouldn't allow.
I have no access to my old psn account.
Removed my standard stock hdd and replaced with new 1tb ssd, screen keeps saying "cannot start. The appropriate system storage not found".
Checked ssd on pc, no problem, tried a 500gb Toshiba hdd, same message.
Swapped back original hdd, system boots up no problem, so not connection problem.
Im using an official sixaxis controller.
I have tried to boot in smart mode, same message.
I have tried to flash with official Sony pup file.
I have tried different usb drives.
I tried formatting ssd to mbr, no joy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't mind reinstalling from scratch if I need to
Kind regards
Simon

some SSD will not work at all. some give problems after a long time (usually forcing a format). some seem to work okay.

basically, SSD was invented after PS3. PS3 was never updated to support them fully (trim command notably). some will work for a year or more before misbehaving, making it very hard to recommend any specific drive. i recommend either using a HDD. if you do use an SSD, i recommend backing up saves and anything else important to you often.

Some SSDs work, others do not. Another user described it as "Russian Roulette", so do some research first. I'm sure someone somewhere has compiled a compatibility list, maybe... But I got by using a 512gb Sandisk SSD just fine on my slim.
