PS3 Super slim PS3 shutting down 3 sec after booting

Hey there, it's me again...
Finally received my PSU, and you know what ?..... drum roll.... it did NOTHING :madd:

However, something worth mentionning : I tried doing the same thing as Kleon (turning it on again and again), and suddenly the delay between starting the console and it shutting down has gotten longer and longer. However, no TV signal.

So I guess it must be the motherboard ? Or perhaps something else ? Did my PS3 turn into a brick ?... :culpability:

way mine works is I have to try try a bunch of times and after like 15-20 2-3 second ylods, I do it again and again until I get into safe mode. 1 or 2 beeps. So if it s not the psu, and u haven't damaged anything, it could be a bad flash or something. You should
Be able to get into safe mode if your problem is similar as mine. My suggestion is take the hdd out when trying this. Hopefully u can get to the cannot fine hdd screen. Leave it on for a few min. Turn of. Reinsert the hdd and try again. Could be a bad hdd also. Did you take the console apart? Cleaned it, delid? If you have there might be one more thing that's causing the problem. But try the above mentioned steps and let us know

Nope, I've tried changing the HDD (which works fine), but it didn't work. Actually our PS3s are different (you own a Slim while I own a Super Slim), so maybe things are a little bit different too.
However, as I mentionned in my original post, my PS3 can't be booted at all. It goes like this : Plug in the power, red light, start the console, green light, wait between 1 and 10 seconds, sudden crash without warning and no light, press power button, go to step 2... Also, no yellow light at all (maybe because Slims and SS are different ?), and no TV signal.

I've heard that if you take a hot air station and blow hot air on some componments on the motherboard, it may work again. Is that correct ? And since I don't have a hot air station, is it dangerous if I use an air dryer ?

You've got the same problem as me with my superslim bud... red light, then green... then nothing, completely off... In my case it is the wifi module is cooked (pretty sure, haven't tried replacing it yet)... If I test the board, I have a short where the wifi antenna plugs into the board....

I've done a couple of chip reflows over the years with a hot air station, but that only works if the problem is with the solder balls under the two chips... I would definitely suggest watching some you tube vids before attempting to do anything like this... I recommend "NSC Mods", he's got a pretty good reflow tutorial, and he's thorough and careful... Bear in mind you need to heat the components you are reflowing past 220 or more degrees c, an actual heat gun, rather than the hot air station is the preferred method... A hair dryer won't go anywhere near that temp...

What happen before it went dead? New update? While gaming?
Nothing special. I've successfully updated the console to 4.87 (if my memory is correct), and then I was jailbreaking it. However, I don't think the jailbreak was the cause of the problem, because it crashed multiple times before I even attempted to jailbreak. The console was just idling while I was using my PC.

Ouch, now that's some bad news :ambivalence:

You would have to test the wifi plug on the board to confirm that for your console, but if you have a friend

Well it was for me lol... maybe I'm wrong... the only way to see if it's like mine is to open it up and see if the middle pin of the wifi plug is ground with a multimeter... only the outside of that plug is supposed to be ground...

Hey, it's OP again.

As this damn oval black box was taking up space and a f*ckton of dust, I had to do something. I've read somewhere that the short or whatever causes the thing to shut down can be caused because of foreign material touching the motherboard.
So I completely disassembled it, and Jesus Christ this plastic box was FULL of rust. I couldn't remove it at all... but I've still managed to take off the biggest parts. I also cleaned up the motherboard with 99% alcohol on a cotton swab, it was pretty dirty... After that I applied new thermal paste and proudly reassembled the whole thing!
But hey, repairing my ps3 like this would have been too simple, am I right ? I pressed the power button, the light went green for 30 whole seconds, then it shut down just like last time. And it did the same afterwards, except it didn't last 3 seconds before crashing. Not to forget I've accidentally ripped the small disc drive flex cable near the cpu fan.

So conclusion: I am sick of this piece of trash, and I wasted way too many hours trying to repair it. I'll try selling it for 5 bucks in case someone wants a huge-*ss doorstop, and if I can't, I'll throw it where it belongs: in the trashcan. At least I got an original PS3 controller... Thanks everyone for trying to help though.

Hi. I'm with the same problem. My ps3 just keep shutting down after few seconds. No lights after that. Pressing power button puts first red Light. Second press turns it green. You can hear cooler to turn on for second or two. Wait for 5-30sec. and ps3 turns off again no lights on.

It started with system jammed every now and then. You had to force it to shut down pressing power button on some seconds. At some point it stopped to start on but after few tryings it worked again.

New PSU is shipped and i vacuumed all dust away from everywhere inside when i opened it. I think it worked some time better after dust cleaned.

I have tools and time but my knowledge with electrics is not that good. I think anyway that i can replace some parts even on motherboard if needed. I can be very accurated and small parts and steady hands won't be problem.

So if PSU won't make a change then what do you think i should try to replace next?

I'm sorry if i have some language errors but i don't use my english too often...

Hi guys. I dont' know whether I need to and where I must introduce myself. Whatever, I'm Salvo, from Italy. I came across this thread cause yesterday I got a super slim I had bought on ebay, and after a good thirty minutes of running smoothly, it started to fail and manifest the same issues as many have described in this thread, that is green light for seconds and failed again. I teared it down, and I found smth interesting in my own one. giving that I have no skills in electronics, I ask yo whether it's normal having this stuff under that big component, maybe for keeping it hold, or in fact I can assume that that's could be the issue. I'm attacching photos https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1q4nn8CV4J0hJLixOQ_4WvJFHgNHOqzYC?usp=sharing

Yes, its a shame he hasn't done a follow up video yet.

I plan to first remove the voltage adjuster and see if that removes the short. From what I understand this regulates the voltage into the wifi/bluetooth module from 5v to 1.8v. Failure causes too higher voltage to be supplied to the wifi module causing it to fail/short.

In theory removing this power supply should remove the short hopefully enabling the console to boot. Although I will never be able to use the wifi or bluetooth or update the console (which doesn't bother me).

I will update my post when I get around to doing it.

I removed the voltage regulator on my CECH-2503B. Did nothing to stop it from shorting.

Hi. I'm would like to share some of my problems relating to PS3 superslim PSU issues. The problem was happened after repasting and the console doesn't want to turn on. Then, I'm managed to getting hands dirty with ATX PSU mod first and subsequently, it worked. Then, I decided to replace the faulty PSU with the newer one but turned out the console still failed to power on and then reverting back to ATX PSU mod.

The console is now still operational with ATX PSU mod but when I found out that after switching on from the mains, it took at least 1-2 seconds for red light to be appeared. I think the PS3 mobo is the real culprit, possibly may have some dying capacitors inside it.

It sounds like I have the same problem with a super slim I have... Plug the console in, red light... press start, then it turns green and 2 seconds later it goes dark, as if there is no power. Press the power again, and the red light appears... I can repeat that over and over with no change...

I happen to have a working console, so I changed the power supply over, thinking that was the problem...

It changed nothing.

Might not be the same problem, but it sounds identical. Just thought I'd let you know you might be wasting your $$$

I have accessed the syscon chip and gotten the error codes from the console, but unfortunately no-one has answered my post requesting help finding out what the codes mean, so... yeah...
Literally going through this right now and your comment is the only thing on the internet that I can find.. did you ever find a fix for this?
