PS2 [Testers Needed] Open PS2 Loader with exFAT support (files above 4GB on USB)

So much new stuff as well as bug-fixes! It is awesome! :D
  • ZSO-Support
  • UDPBD-Support
  • "Read-ahead" support
  • ExFAT-Support
  • USB Incompatibility-fixes which should fix most if not all devices which were not compatible since OPL 1.1.0... ACTUALLY... SOME more devices should work IMO!
  • Sector-cache
  • etc.
I figure the Discord was the perfect place to get help regarding code/coding (help) and testers?!! ;)

Imagine people who play from USB and are still on a 0.9.x-version of OPL... I mean... The improvements of 1.0.0 over 0.9.3 alone were massive IMO, but all of these new things "on top" would blow these people's minds!

Edit: No need for fragmented files on USB (ExFAT or even ZSO for those over 4GB ISOs which compress under 4GB), close to HDD like speeds via LAN (via UDPBD), compressed ISOs on every device (although MX4SIO currently works bad with it), "read ahead" should provide a bit faster bandwidth on every device (maybe even in circumstances like using SMB + ZSO), sector-cache is probably going to be supportive of "read ahead" although it already improved some things on its own, etc.

The OPL 1.2.0 Beta's are already impressive... I mean... Even those which have the merged stuff and not the test-stuff!
OPL 1.2.0 is going to be an impressive release ALREADY!

When ALL the new stuff is merged and some more fixes are accomplished/applied, this will be THE OPL Version to use!
I really like the new features, but I care a lot about stability when a release is called "stable" and the GUI still has a lot of bugs though.

Edit 2: ...and fragmented files later on possibly... Man... This will be the biggest update in OPL history since... 1.1.0 or 1.0.0 or since ever!

@Berion, do you mean PS2NetBox? I didn't use that from so long. xD

And why is fragmentation still a problem? Is this PS2-side issue? No other devices I know have a problem to manage data from fragmented USB device.

@TnA

In English via G-Trad :

Is there a file in French for this version 1.2.0 of OPL ???

If not, I can try to translate it fairly well and give it to you.

Thank you for your answer and see you very soon.

PS: what do you think of the tests that we carried out my friends and I on the EU versions of PS2 games for the MX4SIO and that I entered in your list ???

Algol "le papy".

@Haker120 Games (images and VMCs) need to be non-fragmented, because we are not running a filesystem-driver in-game since quite a while... Old OPL versions support loading fragmented games, but the driver requires more IOP RAM.

There might be a solution on the way for this as well!
However... The recommendation of keeping the files non-fragmented will remain.

Edit: @Algol No, there are English test builds only, but OPL 1.2.0 seems to be on its way, so use the latest OPL Betas!

Sorry, I haven't seen the updates to the MX4SIO-List, but I appreciate every contribution.

Ps2 Slim + Toshiba Usb 3.0 Flash Disk

Test: Gran Turismo 4 (US)
There is no slowness and stuttering in the game, it works extremely well.

+ Cover images appear on Opl, just edit with Opl Manager.
+ Virtual Vmc is running no problem
+ I did not experience any stuttering during gameplay.

- Only the opening video is slow and hangs

It's very successful, running on a single piece of USB without the hassle of splitting games, which is a good thing.

GT4 Intro that only opens at the beginning of the game is slow and hangs. Other than that, there is no slowness anywhere.

Since the video is read directly, there is no cache, this seems normal to me, after all, it works with Ps2 Usb 1.1 :quartet:

Note: Normal iso test

Man... This will be the biggest update in OPL history since... 1.1.0 or 1.0.0 or since ever!
Actually most massive update was 1.0.0. But from the end user point of view, definitely 1.2.0 will be game changer. If it will not introduce some critical bugs impacting game compatibility. ^^

Personally for me, most important and interesting is combo of exFAT and compressed disc images support.

Yet there is still some killer cases like Tales of The Abyss and Klonoa 2 freezes. :/

UDPBD and ZSO or ZSO with internal HDD is the most interesting to me. :)
ExFAT is cool though and fragmentation-support as well. Just drop in the ISO/ZSO on an already ExFAT formatted stick in the CD/DVD-Folder and done...

The caches and read ahead feature are also very interesting, because I am very much interested in performance although I barely use USB. These should however also have an effect on other media (although maybe not as noticeable)!

is exfat supported by smb/hdd as well?
SMB is filesystem independent to begin with!

Has this awesome feature been added to beta now? I think it should be added, it's a big job getting rid of the fat32 curse :evil witch:

The reason I'm asking is, when there is something new, should I follow it here or on Beta?

Just like with ZSO, once this is merged into the main repo and a beta is released there, I will change all the links in the main post to point there, so that's where you will have to follow once the feature is there. In any case, you can still use this thread to post any issues you may have.

Still 'saving settings' and 'NO MC for MX4SIO' bugs persist but other than this I wanna see it in official repo! :D

Can anyone verify for me no matter what USB device I'm trying loading from exFAT formatted (generally, not just PS2) is as fast or even faster (depending from USB device) but writing drops from 12MB to max 5MB/s (my fastest SD card I own but it drops usually to 3-4MB/s write speed). I don't think it's something with my PC (tested on few units) or USB drives itself.

Test: God of War (US) 8GB iso

Completely smooth, no slowness and no stuttering.

Test: WRC: Rally Evolved (EU) 3.6 Gb iso

exFAT: There is no slowness, it works smoothly.
Fat32: There is no slowness, it works smoothly.

Gaming test smaller than 4Gb

El caso es que solamente OPL te va a detectar los USB en exFAT así que primero tienes que copiarte el OPL a la memory card con otro USB en FAT32.

ENGLISH:
The problem is that only OPL detects exFAT drives, so you need to copy OPL to a memory card to launch it from there using another USB on FAT32.

Does anybody try to this test build with enabled HDD?
I mean HDD Device Start Mode -> Auto.

I cannot boot any game from a pendrive when this device is enabled at boot.

The way to reproduce this issue:
  1. Launch OPL.
  2. HDD support has to be enabled at boot (HDD Device Start Mode -> Auto)
  3. Insert a USB device
  4. At BDM Games manually click :but x: to Start Device
  5. A list of games should appear
  6. Try to launch any game
  7. I get stuck at:
