PS3 The road to change region of a Japan PS3 to play PAL PS2 games

Hi,
i got a Japan PS3 CECHA00 with OFW 4.83 and want to play PAL PS2 games. What i found is that CFW Rebug 4.84 supports changing the region code.

Can i change the region with Evilnet 4.90, too? I havent really found a answer to this question. Maybe someone can help me. Thx!

Yes. I think you may need to install PEX and switch to DEX mode to access that option though.
Please note that as long as you have Cobra active (which is the default for CFW) it will bypass all region locks anyway.

Thanks for the respond.

Evilnat 4.90 PEX allows to change the region:
1. Toogle "debug settings" under "CEX2DEX Tools"
2. Under "Settings -> Debug Settings" change Region

Got my PAL DVD to play. Now i waiting for my first PAL PS2 game.

Changing the button assignment works, too.

Short update:
Was able to test the PAL version of Buffy: Chaos Blade - and it works perfectly on my Japan PS3 CECHA00.

Maybe it is possible to put this information in the "PlayStation 3 FAQ (2023)" thread.

I havent really found these information on reddit or here. So it could help others who are looking for a way to change the region of their PS3 - especially european player.

Definitely a great idea! I didn't even know you could do that until I read this thread... now you're making me want a fat PS3 XD

I find if you do not have a tv that is capable even through HDMI of displaying 50hz pal it will lose signal I have a NTSC Phat CECHA00 evilnet and it starts the game but when it goes to the play part it loses signal. I tested it with ps2 and gsm and it works fine so the ps3 has issues playing pal on ntsc for some games with certain tvs. this is a iso image on the hdd also tried a backup in the dvd player same issue. Other PAL games may let you choose 60hz. I havent tried with a computer monitor but thinking those would work because they can display 50hz.

Hi all,
I've received my CECHA00 from Japan.
I wanted one in order to read and play some PS2 PAL games with hardware compatibility but after installed CFW 4.91.2 then changed the region to Europe so l can't read anything from PS2 PAL games…
I've got a black screen but I can reach the XMB to return in PS3 menu.
I've already read some topics related to this issue but no one has an answer to fix it.
May be over here someone could support me?
Thanks in advance

Change the debug menu settings to DEX, then enter the debug menu and set the region from there.

Hi Niq,
Thanks but as mentioned above I've already change the region to Europe by debug menu.
May be it wasn't clear enough.
The PAL PS1 games, DVD & Bluray (zone2) work properly.
