PS3 This has been ocurring for s few months now on my PS3 with HEN

This problem started after I tried to emulate PS2 games with HEN. First, it'd only start to glitch and freeze the games at some point, but at this point it's worsened and it might happen at any time, randomly. It mostly occurs when I try to use Netflix or play a game. It might as well happen during the startup when HEN's logo shows up, etc. I've tried a handful of stuff such as rebuilding the database, restoring my PS3 default settings, etc. I'm led to believe that it's probably the RSX, but I'm not really sure about such assertion. Its temperatures in the XMB is usually around 66°C or a tad higher.

As an addendum: the HDMI is quite fine, as well the tv. In fact, I'm using the HDMI cable in an attempt to solve the issue since I'd been using AV cable in another tv. Not sure if it's a homebrew issue though. I re-installed the firmware a few times, and even after re-installing the firmware, it'd glitch out like that (With and without instaling hen, tried both scenarios). I haven't tried re-installing the OFW rather than HFW, but it seems pointless tbh. I'm just a novice at this, so I might be mistaken about that.

Please help me.
PD:This is a PS3 SLIM 30XX

looks like a gpu problem. if there's a gpu problem on the 360 at least, you'll have graphical glitches like that or the infamous checkered board pattern.

Is there anything I could do to fix it?Tho I'm already losing hope due to how grave it seems to be.

Try adding washers to the clamp that puts pressure on the RSX, I used to have the same problem with a slim and solved it that way, the only difference is that mine got to a point where it no longer showed an image but I managed to solve it that way.

that's hard to say, because I'm just making a diagnosis based on what happens on the 360. I usually compare the systems since they are more similar than a lot of people realize. anyway, you might ask in the stickied ylod thread. I'm pretty good with the innards of the phat 360 but not so much with the ps3 phat or slim. I've never even opened one, since I've never needed to. with the 360, you have to open it to do any hacks, so I know more about it than the ps3, quite a bit more.

Ah I see. Thanks for answering anyway, it's quite appreciated! I'll have to wait for a few more answers in this thread.

if you ever need any help with the 360 phat's innards, hit me up. :D I don't own a slim, so I don't have any experience with them. anyway, did you say you tried both component and hdmi? I think the component cable is the same as the ps2's just like the wii and wii u's iirc.

Aye chief, I did. In the photo I'm using the HDMI cable, but that's just today that I got to replicate the issue and take a picture. The same issue occurrs with the AV cable, so I presume they're all fine. And I mean, the console just glitches and freezes right away. Given what I've seen around, it does seem to be the GPU

on the 360, there's a chip called the HANA chip which governs hdmi. the ps3 probably has something similar, so I assumed it might be that if hdmi was the only giving you this issue.

This sounds fair and something I can actually do considering my skills and the tools I have at hand. Might try it soon

might try plastic washers. that's what the 3ds uses on the back plate, and what people recommend for the 360's heatsinks.

Yes! I used exactly plastic washers, as they were very thin I used 3 washers for each screw of the clamp. Sorry if my English is not good enough, I hope it is understood at least to the point of being able to help

I think I gave you a like in your intro. your English is very good, better than most natives I've seen.

I don't know the exact reason they're recommended, but I think it has to do with heat. the washers on the back plate of the 3ds are tiny as hell, so good luck replacing those. I recently replaced mine, since my backplate got chipped paint around the screw holes. it was a major pita. I think I used pliers to get them off of the screws. the backplate for the majora's mask 3ds was like $20 for the whole housing while a normal backplate (by itself) is $6 on nintendo.com

I used to repair rrod 360s, e74 was a horrible error to overcome if anyone is familiar, with xclamp replacement for one particular size pan head screws that threaded perfectly into the heatsinks, a nylon washer, followed by a metal washer and of course AS ceramique 2 thermal paste and most rrod(the ones cause by bad solder joints at least) were fixed, slot however were temporary requiring a reball.. I digress tho, 66°C is normal for syscon controlled fan speed on ps3, a tad too hot imo, it will work for a while and then kaput at those temps and higher, they used crap solder in the early models(causing cracking when the board flexed due to heat expansion and contraction along with crappy thermal paste is a one way ticket to frying CPU/RSX, but Sony programed them to be quiet over console lifespan. I hope you get it working well and it keeps chugging along for you but keep in mind ps3s stock syscon temp controller was awful and yes the issues you experience are due to your rsx working its way out the door. If you have any hacked PS3 hardware I highly highly recommend you immediately after you exploit and install cfw/hen your next step be altering the temp control to keep your console cool, new thermal paste(even just over the IHS no delid) will help immensely, the paste they applied under the IHS is the very same on top so long a it hadn't been baked in an enclosed cabinet for too long you can get away with not delidding, my cechp lasted almost 10 years in my possession with almost daily use before the paste under the IHS went dry, cpu/tax temps skyrocketed I immediately shut it down and put it in the closet for when I get the kahonas and proper equipment to delid it.) Hope this was informative at least and hope u solve your issue. Good luck, feel free to pm me if nobody else is available and I'll help u any way I can. I wouldn't think HDMI vs component would make a crazy amount of difference, youl probably see more RSX usage in high resolution high quality games over HDMI than component but the only thing that's changing is the resolution, all the games textures and models still get processed the same except you don't have hi def on component output, there may be a slight difference in rsx temps from either output but I'd guess they're pretty close to the same either way.

nylon washer might be what I'm thinking of. I can't recall though. I can't remember if I got e74 or rrod first on my xenon. I'm pretty sure both happened, and both mean hardware failure of some sort. when I opened up my 360, I noticed that the xclamps had been removed, so someone tried to repair it at some point (bought it used). I couldn't do much aside from thermal paste since I don't have a bga station. I eventually sent it to someone to have it reflowed, but the idiot ended up damaging it more. one of the fans was broken when I got it back.

Thank you! It's a lot of useful info. I'll get to work on it when a friend comes by. Hopefully, I'll be able to fix it up with all the info you all have provided.

it's leadfree solder to conform with green laws to protect the environment, so it wasn't exactly sony and microsoft's fault.

I just went through my backported games. some don't work, so I'm going to have to see if I can fix them. control is obviously a no go. I think trials rising might be as well, but I'm not sure. all I got was a black screen. sorry, off topic. :D
