Transfering Files From a HDD to an another HDD

Recently, I bought a 500 GB HDD for my PS3. I'm planning to use it for the games that never got released to PC.

I don't want to lose anything from my old ~100GB HDD, which has HEN.

I found out what should I do quickly.(Transfering the content of "dev_flash2" and "dev_hdd0" folder from old HDD>Installing HEN to the new HDD>Transfering the same folders to the new HDD>"Restore Database") However... I can't find a way to copy the content of my old HDD.

Here's everything I tried.

1) FTP using IrisMAN: Never worked, although Irisman says that it works.

2) FTP using MultiMAN: Works but either randomly disconnects or just fails to send files.

3) Copying to a NTFS external drive using MultiMAN: It found out the drive but it can't even open it.

4) Copying to a NTFS external drive using IrisMAN: It didn't copied some folders.

And I have one more idea that I didn't tested out because I'm not sure it will even work.

I have an adapter which I can use to connect any HDD using USB. However, I don't know if I can just use it to connect my old HDD, after doing everything(of course except restoring the database.) else that I need to do.

Are there any more ways that I could try? Or maybe I'm doing something wrong on a step?

FTP servers are unstable and not reliable on PS3. But to minimize risk of hang, just copy small parts (if You have plenty of trophies or game with plenty of files, do this in separate session). Eventually, FAT32 on USB is ok but You must deal with 4GiB limit so it is not suitable for everything.

For external devices, CellOS see only MBR/none partition table with FAT32. Encrypted PS3T with UFS2 is not readable so don't bother. For that You need PC, Linux/Windows and ERK which cannot be obtained on HEN. Some homebrew see GPT and exFAT but I don't know how stable/complete is implementation.

if you have webman installed, it has ftp all the time (unless you turn it off). so...if you have webman, irisman or mm ftp were probably interfering with webman ftp (so neither worked). wired is more stable than wifi.

apollo save tool will backup saves and flash2 BTW

My issue is mainly with saves and profiles. I have a ton of saves which I started before even installing CFW(all from games with disks). I don't want to lose them, because it haves some great saves that I don't want to lose. I might need the profiles too, because some games(for example, Diablo III) use different users to save at local co-op and I also play games with it. Installing anything again won't be a problem for me. I already backup everything that I install to my consoles.

So, if I only care about the saves and profiles(and maybe settings), is the System Backup Utility maybe good enough for me?

BTW: [The link to his PS3 Backup Manual. I can't post anything with links, so I needed to remove the link of it.]

Thank you but I already saw that guide. :smile new: Sadly, it doesn't haves any information about any way to transfer files.(Instead it expects me to already have a way to do it.)

I actually don't have WebMAN! But I'm planning to install if if I ever manage to upgrade my HDD.

wired is more stable than wifi.

I actually can connect my PS3 to my PC wiredly. But I don't know if I used it or not, because I don't know how to be sure if I'm using a wired connection or not. Maybe if I manage to be sure that I use the wired connection for FTP, it could be the solution to my problems.

WMM is one of the most important software on hacked PS3. ;]

If I remember correctly, CellOS in CEX fw not allows to use more than one network connection (DEX and DECR can), so if You will configure it by cable, Wi-Fi will be forgotten.

System Backup is never good because not allows to restore it everything on different console/mother board. But let's assume You will always use this specific console: then it is still bad idea because You cannot choose what You want in backup. It will create archives with almost everything from HDD.

I still strongly recommending to make backup by hand.

I agree. But my old self wouldn't, lol.

I have a CECH-3004A, so afaik, my only chance is to use HEN.

I have a working LAN cable. So if I simply disable Wi-Fi, then will it always use the LAN connection? That might be more stable and the answer to my problem.

I would definitely do that if I can. I'm still trying to find a way for transfering everything without any errors

4) Copying to a NTFS external drive using IrisMAN: It didn't copied some folders.

Update to this.

I found out that it stops when it gets an error. The error happened on the "dev_hdd0/games" folder. Meaning, if I understand correctly, it's about the updates and DLC(Installations from BDs to hard drive isn't important at all, as you might guess). It looks like if I just copy the files that I copied back to my new 1 TB(Weirdly, the 500GB one didn't worked in anywhere, so I'm going to buy a new one), everything except these will work.

And then I checked what they are. And found out that none of them are important! This is because I never updated games or installed any DLC.
