PS3HEN [Tutorial] [PS3HEN] The Great Ps3 HEN All in One Guide

@Fin9ersMcGee
The PS3HEN [auto] installer fails if PS3HEN was installed before and the console was reverted to HFW 4.84.
It overwrites the already downloaded .pt3 file, says "Enabling HEN..." but no "Welcome to HEN 2.2.2" message, then exits the browser. After reboot the XMB is unchanged.
I remember that the PS3HEN [auto] installer did much more the first time I installed PS3HEN.

Anything I can do to make the PS3HEN [auto] installer work again?

Was able to reinstall PS3HEN again over the USB installation method:
  • Download release files
  • Put PS3HEN.BIN on USB root
  • Call http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)/hen/enabler/usb/
Then reverted back to HFW 4.84 via recovery mode again, this time without cleaning trails first.
This time the PS3HEN [auto] installer worked.

Tried again with cleaning trails first and PS3HEN [auto] installer failed again.
So something is missing for PS3HEN [auto] installer to work.
USB installation method immediately worked again.

It turns out that the PS3 console has to be restarted from the Internet Browser in a special way.
Then after reboot the PS3HEN [auto] installer works again.
The workaround is again calling the USB installation method without a USB HDD/Stick.

Before the next PS3HEN installation use the following workaround:
  • Start PS3 console.
  • Start "Network > Internet Browser".
  • Go to HEN USB installation method: http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)/hen/enabler/usb/
  • Press button "Initialize HEN Enabler".
  • Press button "Enable HEN".
  • It will fail, that doesn't matter.
  • Exit Browser via "Triangle > Exit".
!!! This will shutdown the PS3 console !!!
  • The PS3HEN [auto] installer works again on that PS3.
That's how I clean-up as of now:
  • Deinstall all homebrew except for File/Backup Manager IrisMan and SEN Enabler.
  • Start File/Backup Manager "Game > IrisMan" to clean-up HEN/HAN/Homebrew related directories and files.
  • The following list contains the typical candidates for vanilla installations with just File/Backup Manager IrisMan installed.
Still files from these and other homebrew could be left behind in several other places. What are the typical locations to clear or remove?
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/BDISO
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/DVDISO
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/GAMES
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/GAMEZ
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/PKG
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/PKGTMP
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/PS2ISO
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/PS3ISO
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/PSPISO
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/PSXISO
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/ROMS
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/exdata
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/game/XMBMANPLS (HAN? CFW left-over?)
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/hen
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/packages
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/plugins
    • Remove directory /dev_hdd0/xmlhost
    • Remove file /dev_hdd0/boot_plugins.txt
    • Remove file /dev_hdd0/Latest_HEN_installer*.pkg
    • Remove file /dev_hdd0/theme/PS3HEN.p3t
    • Clear directory /dev_hdd0/tmp
  • Exit File/Backup Manager.
  • Delete File/Backup Manager "Game > IrisMan" via "Triangle > Delete".
  • Start "Game > SEN Enabler" to remove execution history via "Delete history files" (include HomeBrew calls, e.g. IrisMan).
  • Exit SEN Enabler.
  • Delete "Game > SEN Enabler" via "Triangle > Delete".
  • "Update" to OFW/HFW via "Settings > System Update".

Or use the new "Auto #2" mode that uses more discrete values for the fan speed.
If temp is < 60°C, SYSCON mode is used.
If temp is between 60°C and 70°C, fan is set to 31% + 2% per degree.
If temp is between 70°C and 78°C, fan is set to 50% + 5% per degree. For 79°C and higher, fan is set to 98%.

awesome man this is a big improvement thank you

Hey guys, I've tried HEN for a day and while it installed normally, it did have a few hiccups here and there (black screens, etc) but no serious ones.
I since reverted back to using HAN because for me it seems much more stable.
I was wondering if anyone with superslim and HEN installed have tested the exploit extensively and if it would be safe as an alternative to HAN? I am planning to give HEN a try again if I knew that it was safe and wouldn't damage my superslim in the long run. Thank you very much.

Not sure If asked already, but how do you install the homebrew such as Multi or Iris managers? I've watched some youtube video where the guy enabled HAN to install MultiMAN but also read that you can forget about HAN as it is not needed anymore?

EDIT: Nevermind guys, it was so simple, because of conflicting info I thought I had to enable HAN... I enabled HEN and just installed package as normal lol

So SEN Enabler is safe to use and working on 4.84 HFW (HEN Enabled)?

This link for PSX Classics Tools still works:
https://www31.zippyshare.com/v/wdVGU08U/file.html

Taken from the Sakimotor tutorial:
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/tutorial-convert-psx-ps2-psp-games-for-ps3xploit-3-0-han.16690/

However, it does not include "PSX2PS3". Does anyone have it and can share it?

The link posted there was blocked by mediafire I guess. But here, I found this one for PSX2PS3 on a russian forum http://www.mediafire.com/file/tad562ywdb49nkc/PS1-PS3+V2.7z pretty sure it's the same program.

Nice to know this.
Planning to sign-in to sync my trophies.
This saves me time, cause what I usually do.
From 4.84 HFW I revert back to 4.84 OFW.
Just to be safe when I go online.

I use SEN Enabler only for clearing execution history.
Do not know if patching IDPS and more works.

I found that PS2 method works but game doesn't see your memory card. To fix this you need to make pkg of your iso game once to make save file, go to dev_hdd0, find your game (it has a different from other ps3 games name) and copy folder user data or something like that to placeholder and now you can just move iso to your ps3, make iso.bin.enc in multiman and everything will work.

I tried following the PS2 game instructions, but my PS3 shuts down every-time, the only time it worked was with the tetris game, but I cannot get it to work with Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, I have even tried reinstalling HEN by reverting to OFW, factory resetting, and reinstalling HFW and then HEN, and yet it yielded the same result.

Any suggestions?

Sorry, that placeholder in the tutorial makes saves itself, thanks

So just to clarify... Its a panic shutdown?
Ps3 turns off completely with no power light?

Correct, I got around it by pulling my really old ps3 out of storage that had the PS2 PSN Classic install of San Andreas on it, and ripping it off that and installing it on my new system, but when I tried to use the ISO.BIN.ENC method, it would go into panic shutdown as you describe it.

What version of HEN?
What backup manager are you using?

latest version of HEN, so 2.3.1 I believe or whatever the latest version is (remember this is a fresh install), and I've tried webman mod and a lot of times it'll freeze when trying to mount the ISO.BIN.ENC, and I've also tried IrisMan and it's able to mount it (although sometimes it freezes when trying to load Irisman when there's an NTFS USB in the USB port) and I've also tried PS2 Classics manager, all pretty much yield the same result and cause the panic shutdown when I load the game from the classics placeholder, just after the PlayStation 2 logo.

Webman mod has had some issues with HEN and it's down to the fan control.
Go to webmans setup page and set the fan to manual or syscon. Don't forget to apply the settings by clicking the "Save" button at bottom of webman setup page. This should stop freezes/shutdowns.

okay.. I followed the guide and I was trying to install some retail pkg with their rap file.. I put the rap file in the exdata folder after installing the pkg... and when I tried starting the software.. it told me the licensing was wrong... any thing i did wrong?

I followed the guide from the start too...
