No. If BT or BD is definitely malfunctioning, you should not be able to install any firmware, whether it is hfw or ofw makes no difference as they are both basically the same thing.

Since my last post I've finally managed to install HFW and eventually Hen using this guide (it took multiple attempts using the second installer as it kept failing). I just wanted to help anyone who has similar problems as me know that I went out and bought another official Dualshock 3 PS3 controller so I could get around 'pressing the PS button' in recovery mode issue.

Well anyway, all the lights were rapidly flashing on this controller (for about 30 seconds) and it still wouldn't get me past that screen. I read that flashing lights were a sync/battery issue and I connected the controller via USB and still flashing. Tried pressing the reset button on the back and still flashing. Connected to PC and still flashing (you get the idea). I had the brain wave of trying out another mini-USB cable that came with an old camera from way back and result! It was the damn cable that was the problem. I don't know why, but the cable from the box doesn't allow any communication to sync, if it is indeed working at all. I got this console second-hand from someone, so either the cable is broken or it never belonged to this package and he just mistakenly bundled it together with the console. Now with this cable even my old controller that had no lights coming on works and syncs with the console. It seems I bought another controller for no reason. Oh well.

The only problems I've had with this Hen guide that I'd appreciate an answer to are:

1. With 'Unofficial multiMAN v04.84 HEN'. When I try to install it I can't get past the agreement screen on install. It becomes black and the PS3 crashes and requires a hard reboot (holding down the power button until the console shuts down). I'm nervous about doing this since I don't want to enter factory service mode by accident and brick the console.

2. In part 4 the guide talks about backups and copying them over to internal hard drive. This super slim has no hard drive, only 12GB internal flash so I wanted to put my PS3/PS2/PSX/PSP isos on my external USB hard drive and load them from there without transfering and installing to internal. Is that possible? If that is not possible then is there a way of connecting up an external full size hard drive from a PC to the super slim (I don't care whether it sticks out of the PS3 bay) and install games on there?. I have external power supply and cables from various adapters.

I just spent a few hours scanning through this thread but didn't find anything like my problem/question.

I have a PS3 CECH4002A that has OFW4.87 (installed by mistake). I also have a 3k3y and a HDD full of my back ups, 60 odd games. 4.87 disables access to these backups. If I install HFW and HEN will I be able to access these games. I don't want to have to rip them all again. Would I need to remove the 3k3y to allow HFW and HEN to operate properly.

been using this version on a superslim with no problems fromm4.85 HFW to 4.88 HFW.
if u can lever a SATA HD from an old laptop it will go straight into your superslim (you'll find a tutorial somewhere)
the caddy to hold your drive in can be found on a well known auction site for a snip.i dont know if u have to format it to
FAT32 before u put it in or not but i do and your PS3 will format it and make it operational.

Overall very few people have a setup similar to yours or even used that kind of hardware so it is not really surprising that you got no replies.

Afair (vague & possibly unreliable memories though) iso backups for Cobra ODE should work with HEN so I would assume yours should too, keeping the ODE should not be a problem (it may need to be in bypass mode or something like that) but I don't recall anyone reporting that any of this worked, when HEN was in development & testing phase, nobody in the ps3xploit team had the hardware to test such things, it was impossible to provide definitive tips/details without it.

ODEs are obsolete nowadays, PS3HEN offers a better software based alternative to manage your game backups, now might be a good time to move on & adopt newer hacks.

You have nothing much to lose now anyway as you cannot downgrade.
If I were you I would probably install HFW 4.88, then PS3HEN & a backup manager & I would give it a go.

hello, i ask again in case theres new developments, so i am going to replace my hdd sometime soon (or rebuild the database to make it hopefully a bit more bearable in the meantime)

and that of course means the system needs to be re activated, thing is its currently on 4.86 and activated with a legit act.dat and a psn account on of the system users, so the question is

is it possible to re activate this system without updating to 4.88 and logging in to psn ? by means of backing up specific files and restoring them afterwards so it is persistent and not having to do it every boot ?
 
First off this one he'll of a thread, hats off to op. I can't seem to get the full webman, the installer shows up but L1 does nothing and X isa weird menu, I'm not sure where to go from here iv been at it all night, also Im pretty dam lost on saving the game as I have iris as well but I must be missing a step somewhere, any help would be appreciated Im running the super slim on Hen also.

webman doesn't work well on a superslim with HEN, it cause others like multiman to black screen.
and what you are seeing? have you enabled hen? I'd avoid using webman, Multiman is better option.

Thanks man iv noticed it's kinda off I got it figured out mostly for now I think, I got multiman running now my problem I think I had the USB on the opposite setting by accident so I changed it back to Fat32 and just dropped pkg right in the root and she's been working, my only wonder now is wheres the best game library or do I just gotta piece my collection together. Oh and do tell me if I'm totally wrong and sound like a moron lmao

hold L1 and press X on the icon. ps3 will reboot. after that webman starts when hen starts (no need for the icon anymore).

the offical playstation store is the best online source...or you can get used discs from pawn shops, craigslist, gamestop, etc.(BTW we do not allow piracy discussions here).

Okay okay thanks that tip man. I got into that but I was wondering do I really need all 3 web,multi,iris? Lol I'm sure I Learn it all in time, I just starting looking into stuff because I missed the good old ps3 days
 
I only use multiman, my game collection consists of 200 ps3 original games. I buy PS3 collections on ebay for next to nothing. Multiman backs up to iso which ever game I use.
 
What the actual hell are we supposed to do now, I thought Sony wasn't coming out with new updates any longer for the PS3 system? I hope the team figures out something quick on how to bypass the new update that launched tonight. Meaning that SONY OFW is now onto 4.89. This is to much for me to handle :') please work your magic so I can sign in to the psn network and play my games while on HEN 4.88 v3.0.3! What a buncha fuckery!
