PS3 Unable to preform backup of the internal HDD

so i am about to switch my ps3 because the current one is having overheat issues. so i am planning to backup my hdd content to the external hard drive then use the current 1 TB internal as a new hard drive for the new ps3 . However, i am having issues where i get an error of code 8001003A which refers to the external usb device is being disconnected. then after several times of trying different external drives..different usbs..still no use as i am getting a different error code 800283E4 which refers to another issue with the drive i am trying to backup my data to.

appreciate all the below helpful comments and thanks in advance
 
what do you mean by "backup"? I mean does the system still function for any given period of time? if it's official to official, I think you need to use the ethernet cable way, assuming you'll have both systems at the same time. a normal backup won't work on another system afaik. if it's cfw to cfw, I'd use @Berion 's tutorial to backup the important files to be transferred via ftp. forget about the content. that can be redownloaded.

thank you for the clarification . i wasnt aware i could just copy all my content to another different ps3 and yes it was gonna be cfw to hen .

would you mind linking me the ftp insctructions to backup the important files that i need besides the content

Use FTP.
