Uninstalling HEN Toolbox? Freezing upon enabling HEN

Hey there,

let me first express my appreciation for everything that has been done for the PS3. Having said that, I'm really wound up by some minor issues that require nuclear solutions...

I installed HEN on a Slim. Coming from a Phat (which has been flashed before software solutions existed and which currently sits on EvilNat's latest CFW), I'm now getting used to the HEN side of things. And this is where my issues started.

The issue itself is my Slim freezing upon enabling HEN.
After installing HEN Toolbox for 4.88 and for the lack of knowing better, I enabled the XMB patch
it offered (HEN Toolbox Disabled>Enable>Patch XMB?).
It looked like it was correct, HEN was enabled and the first time it rebooted seemingly successful.

I know of Ultimate Toolbox, but I'm not heavily customizing my Phat eithet, so I thought "Let's just use the simple one, it's much smaller anyway."
To reiterate, I knew the successor was Ultimate Toolbox, but it's almost half a GB in size and HEN Toolbox explicitly said 4.88.

Well, it started freezing on the small splash screen/popup every time I enabled HEN, so I wanted to uninstall it.

I found many results via Google where people suggested to reinstall the HFW and HEN afterwards, so I did that multiple times, from the XMB and from Recovery Mode.
Neither worked, everytime the HEN Toolbox shortcut is back after I install HFW and HEN. There isn't even anything to delete in the Game Data Utility.

Is my only option to nuke the entire HDD again, formatting and reinstalling HFW+HEN?

I've lost the "Enable HEN" shortcut before after installing Ultimate Toolbox, I think, after which I always had to reflash the HFW and reinstall HEN.

Either there is something obvious I'm missing, or something works too different from a CFW for me to comprehend

I would really appreciate if somebody has a solution to this. Any additional and less obvious advice towards handling HEN compared to my usual CFW is most welcome as well.

TL;DR: Apparently I'm only able (or too dumb) to get rid of conflicting packages by nuking the entire HDD and reinstall and reconfigure everything. No Game Data, no "dirty" update.
