Update from 5.05 to 6.72, broken USB ports

I want to update a console which has broken USB ports. It currently has 5.05 installed, but I want to go to 6.72.

I tried uploading PUP file via FTP to /update/PS4UPDAT.PUP, but it didn't work.

Is there any way to accomplish this?

I see only two ways. Man in the middle attack for online update (replacing PUP on the fly) or putting *.pup on HDD in proper place with proper permissions and somehow switch boot mode to update kind. I never hear any of this thing anyone achieve yet.

On PS3 in debug mode, there was option in debug XMB for developers allowing reading multiple update files from HDD ("dev_hdd0/updater/00/*.pup"). Maybe something like that is also implemented on PS4?

Maybe updating from optical disk... Never tried that before, but it worth a try.

using a game disc may be the only way. afaik, there's two games that have 6.72 on the disc. you'd have to search them out, because I don't remember the game names.

I asked around, and I believe "death stranding" has 6.72 on the disc. there's several games that have it, but that's one that I've been told does in fact have it. you might try that game.

btw, sorry for the double-post, but @Berion , if you mean qa flagging to enable update debug, afaik, there's no such thing currently with the ps4. one of my friends, a dev, asked me if I knew anything about it for the ps4. I've never heard of it. we may not have the appropriate permissions as of yet.

If you have a BD drive in your PC, try browsing the contents of the Disc. In PS3 game discs, there was a update file which you can see.

I think you can match the MD5 of that file to find out which FW update it is.

I don't know if that would work. I'm not sure what putting a ps4 disc into the pc would read as or if it read anything. I don't have a bd to test, but there is this: https://defaultdnb.github.io/

I wasn't sure at first, but you can type ofw672 in the search bar, and it will show you every game with that update on it. death stranding is among them.

PS3 discs were readable on my BD drive. Haven't tested the PS4 discs because i have removed the drive for repair.

it doesn't matte much as both ps3 and ps4 tell you which firmware the pup is for before installation.

On PS3 You don't need QA, only dev vsh and dev xml for Debug Updates. I remember that there are payloads for debug menus so from this comes my idea about installing fw from HDD. Maybe similar feature exist for PS4 too.

as far as I know, no such thing exists for the ps4. I'm assuming my friend asked me, because of how much I've learned about the ps4 over the past few months. I've not gone through every debug setting, but I've also never heard anyone mention this feature. remember, update debug didn't exist for the ps3 from the start. and, the 20 updates didn't come to be until firmware 3.50 iirc, so right before 3.55.
