PS3 Update: Sony backtracks and announces PS3 and Vita Stores to remain open!

Yeah, everyone who can do it, should backup all pkgs on their download list, and their licenses now, this way we will have lots of stuff backed up between us all.

I know with psp they shut down the store years ago, but you could still access your download list for years after, so I expect it will be like that for ps3 too, but better safe than sorry.
Used PSDLE in the past (before the PS3/PSP content removal from store) to get all info about my purchased games. But it appears to not be working anymore...

(maybe I'm wrong) but I think that other tools such as reactPSN support that.

I think reactpsn may be the only tool that can make a fake act.dat, but it requires a vsh.self patch. I think most cfw has this patch, otherwise the act.dat is deleted at next boot. psn patch was unable to use the fake act.dat last time I tried it though. I think the one by evilnat may be to look official.

I don't think creating act.dat is hard to do anyway really, I saw bguerville mention before that if required HEN could do it. But there has been no need up until now.

how to do it is on psdevwiki, I believe. it explains exactly what's in it. I don't know about the encryption portion of it though.

So the basic steps would be.

  • ideally get a fresh console or revert a console to OFW and factory reset it
  • put a big hdd in it if possible.
  • download everything from your download list but make sure to background download everything so it does not install
  • then exploit the console and grab all the pkgs and rif files off it. (edit: use apollo to grab the raps)
Better to use a "local proxy", which shows the URL accessed. So there is no need to fill the PS3's hdd. So, there's no need to exploit the console because you can download it from your PC.

True and that's what I said first, just for some people using the console alone might be easier, if they have no PC or whatever.

Either way you need the hdd space somewhere anyway as we do not know how long Sonys URLS will stay working for.

I don't know the details of bguerville's solution, but for HEN, even if the file gets erased on boot, I think that functionality could be added to the payload so fake act.dat could be re-generated by the PS3HEN payload when the exploit gets executed.

So you'd boot > the unpatched vsh erases the act.dat > you execute HEN > payload re-creates act.dat > you can use your content

I was a little worried with the act.dat thing, because it requires to connect to psn (and the erase of act.dat if you use on other profile from your ps3). We will see at the end of month if it affect to games, updates... or only pursaches. Time to backup...

I was going to buy tales of graces f digitally, since my original account with it got banned. my friend once found it for $5 on psn. I got a sealed copy of it for $32, which is the lowest I could find a new one for. I was thinking about going all digital again, but now I'm not sure. I think we'll probably still have access to what we've bought, but if it's going offline soon, I'd have to buy everything within a few months. I'll probably just stick with discs. it will be painful opening up this sealed copy. lol

edit: I guess I wanted the feeling of buying a new game again. I've been doing digital only on the switch, and I did that before with the wii u. I bought 76 games for the wii u. I have it hacked to hell, but the only games I actually play that require a hacked machine are injects. 2 games usually.

@rocknard If You have hacked console, one of the first things to do is to makes backups of keys and some files like act.dat. So even if deleted, You can restore it back.

Connecting to SEN on DualBoot CFW is best solution if not want using proxy (proxy apps are also risky because they can login/password sniffing and sending to the author servers; so it is risky in case not Sony servers whitelisting on router which probably no one doing). Golden rule in IT: trust no one.

About close the "store", what's the point? If people will still be able to download purchased content, it should be better to also keep the sales... Because the costs to keep the game data (DLC, game, avatars, other content....) is bigger than keep servers to host an application to sell...
But if that's true, S0ny will receive a "flood" of consumer lawsuits (at least in Brazil). S0ny was sued to ban PS5 consoles... probably will also be sued because of this "anti consumer" action.

This is what I've been preparing for this past month. Glad I was just ahead of the announcement before it was too late! Would we be able to create a repository for game updates? Or is that considered copyrighted? I'm not sure since they were always free, but who knows I'm not a lawyer?

This is what happen when someone "buying air". I wonder if they also cut off those consoles from games, patches, dlc etc. or just access to store. It is wise to archive all those important data if someone didn't already. Just in case.

When I was combining my updates into single packages I did notice a game update I have, which have already disappeared. I haven't been able to access it, but I already have them downloaded? If this is true I don't think they will be coming back.

Actually... last time we talk here about missing update was GT5 Academy patches (or some other time limited GT5 version). This reminds me that some patches wasn't found ~years ago for games which I borrow to my brother. I have the backups on BD-R but didn't check because I thinking that it is just my memory errors. Now You said You have also experienced missing updates. Something is definitely strange going on here.

They cannot change update servers, because fw asking the same servers as we by any other ways. So why? And how many games lost patches?

PS: Illegal. They are free but we are not allows to upload them on the same ways as downloading them outside PS3 is illegal in most of western countries (if home's door is not lock, it doesn't mean You can enter to the neighbour house ;]).
